Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting a new router as my old Billion from mweb is battling at the moment. Now I've done quite a bit of research and have found that routers seem to be a love them or hate them type of thing, theres no middle ground. Every router I have looked at seems to have a lot of 5 star reviews but also a couple 1 star reviews. I've narrowed it down to a few options, the one I'm leaning towards is the tp link w8968, its a good price and seems to offer a lot. On the other hand I don't know if I should rather go for a better name like the Linksys wag120n, its slightly more but it also has a lot of bad reviews online. And finally I don't know if I should rather look at a separate adsl modem and wireless router, like the tp link td 8817 modem and the tp link WR842ND, the idea behind this is that I can replace one or the other in the future if any thing happens. I'd really appreciate help on this as I am completely stuck!

Thanks!

I would go separates ... it may cost a little more, but has the advantage that you can choose best-of-breed as you go along.

Hi There
I have a TP-Link TDW8968 and it has been fine so far.
Pretty easy to configure and it boots faster than some others.

the advantage of going separate modem router is that if you get a lightning strike hopefully only the modem goes and not the router as well (unfortunately I had an 8817 with a 1043 and a lightning strike still managed to take out the wan port on the router even after blowing the modem). However the 1043 is working great as an extender.

I've been using tp-link products for the last 2 years and value for money they are brilliant, I've now got a WDR 4300 with an 8817 and my 1043 as an extender, I've installed dd-wrt on both the routers and the performance has been amazingly solid, now going on 3 weeks since I flashed with dd-wrt with only 1 reboot on the 4300. Range and everything else has been impressive.

dd-wrt also adds significant functionality to the routers
