Hard-hit global PC market shrinks further

76m for the quarter = 300m for the year. Down but not out.

I use my tablet in bed, my smartphone on the move and my laptop for work. So there's a realignment of how devices are used.

Well for us here in SA....it's the forever damn rand/dollar ROI that pushes up prices beyond most peoples wallets.....
Or we would have definitely seen more units passing through our hands...

I would like to ask these big companies how they expect the desktop market to grow when the research into what used to drive PC sales are redirected into research topics that makes a good mobile devices.

My desktop PC at home is a Core2Quad, with DDR2 memory and a HD5850 GFX-card (no SSD). I'm not sure but I think my bios reads 2007.
I am playing Battlefield3 with that PC (at least med details with 30+ fps), and I'm pretty sure I'm going to play BF4 on it too... in the glory days there was NO way a 6 year old PC would have been able to keep that up... at all.
I was excited to hear that Haswell is finally here, and I have the money saved up, but after reading up on it, I'm pretty sure I can wait for the next generation. The only thing I'm worrying about at this stage is my physical components failing.

I'm not saying that mobile devices are not the future, and not to invest in them. I am saying that manufacturers should stop shouting "woe the desktop sales" if they are the ones forcing it to become obsolete by making mobile devices marginally slower.

There is room for both powerful-PC's and efficient-mobiles, so research both.
