“The grounds include racial discrimination,” Harmers Workplace Lawyers and Arthur said in a statement.

Reports said Arthur, fired two years before his contract was due to expire, was seeking up to Aus$4 million (US$3.69m) in compensation, claiming he was discriminated against because he was South African and “didn't understand the Australian way”.

My thoughts are if he was discriminated against he wouldn't have been hired in the first place

Technically there is only one human race, homo sapien sapien. So I got confused on boundaries ages ago :D
I also get confused. Tiger woods is like one-quarter African American but is referred to as black. George Zimmerman is half Peruvian half Jewish but is referred to as white.

Well, this story makes me hope he does not get a settlement and no one ever employs him again. Why does so many people want to sue when things don't go their way.

Either Peruvian's a race or Jewish is a nationality.

Ok I have to admit that after reading Steve Waugh's autobiography, I came to realise that Aussie cricket administration is a political game and nothing more. They are incredibly secretive and conniving, and there is simply no way to know what went on behind the scenes...

He was a rubbish coach for SA too - don't blame them for firing him.

The Aussies are very racist and xenophobic. I wonder they will in the next round of racist rioting. 1st it was the Lebanese then Indians. Who's next?

Sounds like Cricket SA.

Xenophobia....

Now I am imagining the Oz version of this picture

Mickey Arthur being chased by a kangaroo or dingo....

No we don't and it might be the media with incorrect wording, but this is more cultural discrimination than racial. I'm just tired of everyone making things about race and then wanting to sue.

I must admit, I initially thought that Arthur was suing them. As in Arthur from the forum. I was wondering what heathen acts the bloody Aussie team had been up to now...

Most countries are xenophobic to outsiders....but south african whites moving here do not experience that in the slightest way...so I fail to see the xenophobic link to Arthur's case.
So on a basis of 'looks' their is no distinction, but in terms of culture there is a difference with many south africans...it is probably true that Arthur did not understand the aussie team or dressing room culture.,..it would be a far cry from the bible thumping and prayer culture that has been in SA dressing rooms.
You cannot treat the aussie sporting guys like a schoolmaster with schoolkids as he did. They will stand up and connive to get rid of you.

And FYI... not so sure about 'riots'...by riot standards and definition...a bunch of Lebanese guys from western sydney involved in a massive street fight with surfer and life saver type guys at a beachside suburb, is hardly a 'riot', nor was there anything political although it did indicate a clear distinction of hatred between the two groups. Lebanese from Bankstown and whites from Cronulla are not the best examples of australian society, but of course they are a sign of cultural differences.
