World's cheapest computer: the tinkerer's choice

Awesome media player... Awesome streaming capabilities (LAN cable connected to router)... Lovin' it.

Guys, where can I buy one and how much please ?

I got a couple more over the weekend for my family from a company called Mantech (www.mantech.co.za), they're based close to the JHB CBD (use the site to find the Map). You can order online from them to deliver it or you go to the shop to collect.

Price is R539.99 (excluding VAT) so it's a bit higher than some other local places. However, I believe they got a new batch of raspberries last week some time so at least they have a bit of stock.

If you want an enclosure as well (got myself black ones), that will cost you R70 (excluding VAT).

+1... If you stay in the Joburg area... its great to be able to walk in to a brick and mortar store and grab one off the "shelve"... instead of waiting one to be shipped.

Agreed. I have a feeling the local stores might be selling the raspberries a bit higher than the shipping option however I just couldn't wait :)

Put xbian on it and played with that for a bit but got bored quickly.

Next round will have to be a bit more entertaining.

You tried Openelec?

lol, misunderstanding.

I found using the device as a media centre to be boring.
I want to turn it into my gardener :) (have it water the garden as needed, give me ph, light, etc readings and logs and so on).

Quite like Xbian but my current media system on the tv is a full computer (with 2x 3tb hard drives and 1x 500GB for os and such) so I can do much more with it than with a dedicated media device.

Guess its the first thing everyone does with a raspberry though.

Lol, fair enough.
