Reported the fault on the 29th got this response on the 30th
"According to our records, your request has been resolved"
No change in connection quality , still way below normal.
Got a phone call this morning saying that the DSLAM is congested.

Yes, but they are in the process of upgrading. If you take a drive out today you'll see Telkom trucks all over the show. In addition, they are laying fibre down by Homestead Dam and surrounding areas. No idea on time-frame, however...

I am in the Benoni Farrarmere area, not sure where the exchange is, telkom says the exchange it is too far away to get a better connection than 1mb.

That is unfortunately true. You're connected to the Rynfield exchange. They are upgrading the area at the moment...
I doubt they are upgrading DJ... I drove past the exchange like 4 time today and I saw not one telkom vehicle. The info I got is that Rynfield exchange and Benoni area is only getting MSAN's at the end of 2015.....
I confirmed that they are upgrading. Multiple sources. Take a drive past Homestead dam or the intersection of atlas and mercury. Or the onramp of atlas coming off the n12. In the past few weeks they've been upgrading the boxes in the area as well. Just up the road from me is a brand spanking new box. Not operational yet, but it's there...
I'm having problems again, after being upgraded to 10mb my speed has dropped significantly.

I am on the same exchange. Was not at home at that time yesterday morning, but last night did not have any issues. I am only on the 1mbps though
The new box that was installed in Farrarmere is a bit of a white elephant in its current state. While the box is ready to go, the fibre connection to the exchange that was installed was too small, and cannot handle the traffic expected from the box, so it is sitting around awaiting approval for new fibre to be laid. There is no ETA on this yet.

What speed are you on?
247 ping locally is terrible, that's what you should be getting if you ping European sites/servers.
Also I'm still running slow today.
