2013: Mweb - lets go back to rolling windows :)

Mweb just turned themselves into a joke. They're basically saying that everyone is getting screwed because of 3% of their users. Would it kill them to just throttle the problem users and leave everyone as they were? Do they still force you to stay for a month when you cancel? If so and you want to leave, just downgrade your account to the cheapest capped option and then give notice. Doing this only cost me R30.

I left them a few months ago for Afrihost business when the international cables broke, and my connection is amazing - properly unshaped 24/7 with great streaming and downloading. I highly recommend Afrihost to anyone leaving Mweb.

Good Morning Bryn26, that's the reason the mailer was only sent out to the clients abusing the network and the client who are on the cusp of being considered to be abusing the network.

This will ensure the rest of the network has a better experience, that I can assure you.

Just got this over facebook, if its less than 3% its understandable, but still there should be better ways to deal with them

Hi Segg

A small percentage of our users consume excessive amounts of data which has a negative impact on MWEB’s network performance.

MWEB aims to ensure that all customers receive a fair and favourable experience on our network.

Previous discretionary methods such as sending warnings to abusive customers have not proved to be effective in managing this behavior and enforcing our AUP will automate this.

Good MOrning, this is not true.

The email was only sent to the abusers and the users that could be affected by throttling, pertaining to the shaped premium packages only.

So she was lying

And the worst part is you spend days troubleshooting with mweb guy and they say nothing is wrong.

Bloody liars
I am now downloading at 800k never had that with mweb.
Your new CEO is an idiot

So is every user subjected to rolling windows? And if they are, what are they? This is something that should be disclosed.

I have the same with mweb after move to afrihost I can use my full download I download a software update from apple 30 gigs at mostly full line speed in 24 hrs

Apparently even some capped users got a mail (looking at the FB comments)...

Mweb is popping caps now...

On a serious note, Mweb is downright expensive compared to their current competition. I know that Mweb Guy have do PR on a daily basis, but it is time to open up the AUP and explain the limits in detail, how can this change every single time it is being queried?

They should also establish what the cap is on an uncapped product, this is by no means an uncapped service? This entails all other services than only internet connection, and cap does not only mean data cap.

All they are doing now is limiting an advertised service, capped and uncapped. The customers am not experiencing their user experience as promoted by Mweb.

The problem however is challenging terms & conditions (and related policies) against advertised goods…

MWEB sucks big time. It's all thanks to their new idiot CEO. I hope MWEB will pay a heavy price for screwing their loyal customers around.

Hi Bryn26

Not every user is subject to the rolling window if they stay within the parameters.
The requests for a numeric limit was the first question we anticipated when deciding on this change and its probably the one question that we can't answer.
The manner in which we apply the policy is based on a combination of network performance factors coupled with a 30 day rolling usage window for the individual user.

Hi all

I would like to address your questions and concerns, which I have been doing via our Uncapped thread.

Please post your questions here http://ow.ly/nLSbE and I'll do my best to respond to each.

How do you throttle a capped account.

You pay for the data you use.

You still haven't answered the question.

How do you shape a capped account? The shaper is ****ed. This has been noted in the past and I bet that each time you did a "refresh" it was actually removing the account from the shaper. All this makes perfect sense now, the testing already began in July. I noticed quite a few times that magically speeds dropped on a Sunday and if I did the same thing via VPN or another ISP its magically back to full speed. However with mweb it was back to a magical 50% or 75% drop in speed. You do know how VPN is the easiest way to do a shape test, right?

:edit
a simple example (just read the page)

They're lying about a lot of things, it would appear. I'll just leave this here.

Hi Necuno

Please provide me with your MWEB email address. Please keep in mind the mailers that went out does not affect capped users.

Notice how mweb guy shifts the burden of proof to the customer after making the sweeping generalisation that "all isp's throttle!".

Now Mweb Guy is moving the goalposts.

I'm going to guess an apology for lying to countless customers over the course of last night and this morning is not forthcoming.
