Hey there,

I got my Samsung Galaxy S4 about a month ago and noticed a while back that when i open the camera app that the phone freezes and reboots. I have checked if this is a common problem. I found one Youtube video about it saying it is a problem with the original stock and that a firmware update is needed. I checked my phone and it says that the latest firmware is installed. Checked with Kies and it confirms this too.

Is anybody else having this issue? It doesn't happen all the time.

HHHHEEELLLLPPPP!!!

Otherwise I am very happy with the phone!

I currently have the same issue, also on stock rom. Happens intermittently.

Known bug with the ZA firmware.

Download a newer firmware from sammobile.com and flash it with odin - problem solved.

After posting this I found a post saying to disable Google Chrome...tried that. Will see if it helps.

Not keen on flashing and that stuff. I WILL destroy my phone! haha

No you won't. It's pretty easy.

Disabling chrome won't help...

I installed I9500XXUBMG9 from I THINK israel. It doesn't really make a difference as far as I know?

Probably because the cell networks drag their feet at approving software versions

Yip, a known bug indeed and its related to memory management. If flashing is not your fortè then a workaround is to limit the background processes to 4.

1. Go to Settings -> Developer Options -> Limit Background Processes and select [At most 4 processes]

2. If you don't see the Developer Options menu item, then go to Settings -> About Device and tap on [Build number] until the Developer Options become available. No go back to Step 1.

3. I think this setting gets reset after a reboot, so make sure you apply this setting after every reboot.

This worked for me while still on the stock firmware. I have since flashed I9500XXUBMG9 and no more reboots.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I had the same problem until I did a factory reset and then disabled a lot of things (Chaton, Google Play Music, Group Play, Samsung Books, Story Album, S Health, etc.) in the Application Manager. Some of these apps and processes start up when the phone boots. My phone has rebooted on camera start only once since.

I'm having the same problem. The only thing is it has gotten worse over the past 2 days. It now reboots at random times. Takes forever to restart and when it eventually does, the battery is completely drained.

I've installed the latest software tonight and will limit my background processes to 4. Holding thumbs this works because these rebooting are very annoying.

With the update you don't need to limit background processes.

Thanks for the reply Sinbad. My problem still exists and even more than before.
Saw this afternoon my battery is swollen. Saw on another thread that this might be a battery issue. Will take device to Samsung asap.

Yep, sounds like you have additional problems to the camera glitch.

I had a big problem with the camera shutting everything down, but an upgrade of firmware sorted it out first time. Been running MG9 for a couple of months now with no restarts.
