SABC channels will be broadcast on OpenView HD, and the SABC can't stop it

lol. As far as I know the SABC makes its money from A: TV Licences B: Advertising C: Government Bailouts.

Not quite in that order, but anyway.

Why the hell would they be opposed to a company that broadcasts its channels for free?

Can somebody explain?

Well,they do have a case.I just don't know why they've waited so long to respond.

Platco uses the loophole of just sub selling transponder space,making the case that they're not a broadcaster.Well,their own loophole is biting them in the ass.SABC channels according to icasa regulations must be carried on all broadcasters in SA...which they are not.
 
This fight is going to be fun to watch... Will probably provide more entertainment than the actual SABC channels...
 
I would imagine the SABC would be happy for anyone to carry their *****
 
The sabc is such a faaking mess, they should be grateful that someone is willing to broadcast the old useless crap they're broadcasting.
 
All broadcasters are required to include the SABC by law iirc ...

Yes, I think it's part of the "must carry" regulations. I won't be surprised that the matric-less Hlaudi Motsoneneng did not know about this regulation. The SABC is not a private broadcaster. But Hlaudi seems to be confused.

Not really. In terms of advertising revenue, getting more viewers on a new platform could lead to them increasing advertising prices, getting more advertisers thus increasing their overall revenue from advertising. However, there are much more than meets the eye here.
