Best ROM for Samsung Galaxy Ace?

I believe the last official Samsung ROM for the Ace was Gingerbread 2.3.5 - search on Sammobile.

Did try Cyanogenmod on the Ace, but it was still stuttery.

Nothing you could do to get a smooth experience with it.
 
I just did the universal gingerbread root on the stock rom and slapped on Droidwall and Adfree.
 
That latest official Gingerbread I can get on it is 2.3.3. Will have to try something other than Cyanogenmod.

I've got a Gio. Now if you think about how hard it is to find nice stuff for your Ace, my Gio's ten times worse to find ROMs for. I had to settle for a German ROM so I could get 2.3.5. I just got the stock one btw. It's the easier one to find for our phones.

Yeah, mine was the German one, and then just follow the instructions to change the language to English :)
 
I've been using this Cyanogenmod 10.1 (Android 4.2.2 JellyBean) mod for my old Ace and it's working pretty well so far. Your device will obviously have to be rooted and have CWM recovery installed.

I've also installed link2SD to help make up for the dismally small internal storage memory.

BTW anyone have any hassles with their batteries after the first year? Mine packed up and I had to get a generic; evidently it's a design fault in the original Ace. Nice phone apart from that though.

I've tried one 10.1 ROM but it lagged like crazy. The 7.2 one I linked above is very smooth and responsive compared to the stock ROM, but it's drains the battery quite a bit faster.

Yep, mine lasted just a bit longer, and it actually seems like my battery is getting wonky again. Luckily I'm due for an upgrade.
