Hey guys,

Thanks to the congestion on my exchange, gaming on my DSL is not possible. I’m considering getting an LTE deal from Telkom mobile to use just for gaming.

Has anyone used LTE for gaming? The tests I’ve seen show pretty good latency. I am within their coverage area.

Best advice is to get access to a lte modem and telkom lte enabled sim to do a test with.

I basically used my Galaxy S2 and various sim cards of all the relevant SP's to establish who was the best in my area. Ended up with MTN - which I am now using Afrihost Mobile with, playing local / international games on a HSPA+ connection at a decent latency for wireless (looking to see what LTE will be like myself).

Also note, if you do consider going cash / contract with any SP - you have a better chance of getting boosters / aerials for a better connection when being in contract at no charge, whereas you will have to purchase all the necessary items as an out-of-pocket expense yourself - should your coverage not be sufficient.

Hey Sawter,

I am using Telkom LTE with the B593 Router. I have 4/5 bars coverage with +- -86dBm.

The only gaming I have tried to date was local BF3 servers and one in Germany. Local pings was between 20-50ms and international 210 - 230ms. So far my gaming experience is similar to my 10mb ADSL line I had, although with LTE the pings are slightly higher.

How's the stability of LTE?

I used Sentech Mywireless back in the day for BF1942 gaming. Was great; stable, up to a point where I just became so unstable: many hours thereafter playing the game I loved was experienced with frustration :/

Did some gaming last night on battlefield 3 local and international servers. Pings between 20-40 locally and 210-230 International (Germay and UK). No issues with stability when gaming. Downloads however fluctuate between 700Kb/s - 3.2Mb/s and usually achieves an average of 1.5Mb/s.
