I'm sure people have seen the ad in the classifieds.

I first wanted to get rid of the car as I have no space for it but now I am considering possibly having it on a dealership's showroom floor (thats how confident I am of the condition of this car).

This model car was the Car of the Year in 1991 and thus will hold historical significance as well.

If anyone can assist with getting this car onto a showroom floor for display purposes I would appreciate any direction. As a start I am going to take the car to the GM dealership by culemborg tomorrow and hear what they say.

Please note I am in Cape Town so would prefer if the car stays here.

I'm no car expert, but I'm sure it's safe to say that you have high hopes.

It's an old car, in good nic, but I bet you they'll open up their little book full of trade-in values and offer you much less than you expect.

I expect others (privately) to offer you a similar figure - I know I would if I were interested.

Saying that, good luck! I hope you get what you want for it.

I can't wait for the first democratic election in 3 years time - o wait. Its 2013. Darn. Well guess that part is totally useless now.

I am not wanting to sell it, I would prefer not to.

what I am asking is for the dealership to put the car on the showroom simply for display purposes.

I've seen other dealerships do it with other cars too. I'm not looking to make money out of the situation, I just want to know the car will be in an environment where it will be looked after.

and I would prefer to not sell it

So why would the car be in a showroom if not for sale? You want it exhibited?

:wtf:

Being car of the year 1991 will have absolutely no bearing on the value of your car. It won't make it a prized fossil either.

Just because the Ford Focus won car of the year 1999, does not make it worth more money.

The dealership won't exibit your car. Maybe try a car club or enthusiast events.

Wait. What?
Take it to the zoo in that case?
I would say museum but it isn't nearly old or important enough. Sell it for R10 000 and use the cash for something useful.

correct, as stated there are a few cars that are standing in showrooms only for that purpose and I strongly feel this car is up to scratch to stand on a showroom if the dealership agrees to it

my friend has a 1986 bmw 535 standing at auto atlantic in Cape Town cbd

you obviously know nothing about cars to think its value is R10 000, or just trolling for your own amusement

and it holds historical significance for the Opel brand, at its heigh of popularity in South Africa (the era of the superboss) this car won car of the year

No it doesn't. If it was a superboss, maybe, if it was a mint condition M3 of the era definitely. This. Is just a Opel, nothing exciting about it despite what you may think.

so basically you doing everything in your power to put your point across that you are not assisting

I acknowledge you do not wish to assist so can you stop posting since this thread is about seeking assistance not listening to detractors who know nothing about cars.

:wtf:

A Toyota Yaris won car of the year in 2000. Does that make it a prized possession?

It's a freaking Monza, it's not a Mercedes Gullwing or something that actually has merit and is rare. Not to break your heart the car isn't special, it's not rare and at is only worth about R22 000.

Seems you need to go read on the (lack of) significance of winning car of the year title on a run of the mill Monza.

Ummm.. You can always have it put down and taken to a taxidermist?

I think we are all still trying to figure out WTF it is that you want. You have an insignificant old car, that you don't want to sell, but instead want to make someone elses' life difficult with?

Apparently. Must be why there is so many of them in the dealerships?
Their not for sale, merely to be looked upon for the rare creature they seem to be.

if 20 years later it is in the same condition then speak to a Toyota dealership and ask their views

like I said, a friend of mine has a BMW 535, 1986 model standing at Auto Atlantic in Cape Town CBD, simply for viewing purposes only and the car is not for sale.

ask yourself if you contribution to this thread is actually addressing my request asking for assistance, if I wanted reasons not to venture this route I will post a thread asking for such direction.

You have to take into account how many were sold of each model - this might shock you but there was probably more of your Opels sold, car of the year and all that. Hence the BMW is a bit scarcer. Also, the BMW is a premium vehicle from a premium brand so much the same way as old Coca Cola advertising is worth more than some old vaginal cream ad, your car won't be worth as much.

Just do a basic google search for both cars. The BMW comes up with references to sites dedicated to it, wikipedia link is topmost etc.
The opel, well, it's mostly links to junkmail and you can get a wiki page if you specify wikipedia.

/facepalm

It's the premium 535i FFS! Top of the line 5 series! It was one of the fastest production cars in its time. You can't compare that to a 1600 Monza.
