Good Day

I need to sort this problem out. Contacted ISP they say my line is running at full speed.
Code:
Your latency is very high, and there are ALOT of errors on your log. This is either a Telkom or router fault.
My download speed varies between 1.0Mbps to some times 2.01Mbps.
I stay approx. 1.3km from exchange.

These are my Router stats:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 17.0 db 10.0 db
Noise Margin 22.6 db 14.0 db

Now were do I start to find out is it router or Telkom related.:confused:
Any suggestion are welcom.

This sounds like a congested exchange or congested ESR problem. Does the speed drop during peak hours?

Please post a trace to saix.

1. Open command prompt
2 Type: "tracert saix.net"
3. capture and post results

This should help determine where the delay is coming from.

Check your ADSL POTS line filters. They sometimes go bad and cause erratic behaviour.

Not currently in front of my PC.
Will report back tonight.
Tnx for the replies.
The ADSL Pots are still from my first modem. They are approx close to 4 years old.
Will also try to change them.

Will Telkom be able to reset your port, after hours.

Where are you based and what ISP accounts have you tried?

I'm having that issue with my 4Mbps line due to congestion that Telkom does not want to acknowledge, because my latencies are also low.
Like I'm only getting 4Mbps between 02:00 - 06:00. The rest of the day it varies between 0.8Mbps - 1.5Mbps.

@Pada

My ISP are currently with MWEB and OpenWeb.
MWEB=1Mbps and OpenWeb=4Mbps.
Sorry for the late replay.

Saix Tracert Result

@Glinfram

See result on Saix.
Did ask Telkom to reset my Port.
First speed test 2.55Mbps and 0.42Mbps 77ms.
Second test 2.41Mbps and 0.41Mbps 104ms.

Speed seems to be a bit better but latency fluctuate a lot.
Even some of the hops latency varies a lot.

I'm no rocket scientist but the 2nd hop on your trace route points in the direction of exchange congestion or an exchange related issue.

The delay on the second hop is too damn high! Add to the fact that the speeds are inconsistent points to a contention issue - stemming from a congested exchange.

Bear in mind that when you ping google you should have a 10 - 20ms response time.

The best advice I can give you is to tweet @TelkomZA with your issue - they will ask you again for a trace to saix, and will take the issue up pretty quickly. Very decent service from their Twitter account!

@Glingfram

I e-mailed Telkom last night. What is strange when the port was reset on friday.
Down load speed improved to over 3.0Mbps. Yesterday it came to a crawl again.
That is why I e-mailed Telkom.
When I check with Telkom ADSL checker this is the reply:
Do you have an existing Telkom landline number? Yes No

ADSL Availability

Service

Available

Maximum speed available in your area 1 Mbps

Your Current Service speed 4 Mbps

To enjoy a faster surfing experience you can upgrade your connection.

Could it be one off those Telkom exchanges.
It is a small suburb, and I stay approx 1.3km away from the exchange.
