I stumbled upon this article and found it quite a good read especially if you are new to android. Some of you will know all of this already. If you have more battery saving ideas, share 'em.

As more mobile devices are being used and the amount of raw power these devices have keep increasing, the battery and longevity of the battery should be a primary concern for many. Since batteries only have a certain amount of life time per charge, it is a good idea to get the most of that charge and extend it as long as you can. There are a few ways to extend the charge and this article will tell you how and give general tips you should follow to make the battery last as long as possible.

It is an old(ish) article and in every new Android phone thread people ask about battery charging/life/drain, etc etc. This could be a first stop for those new to Android - not oldies like yourself :p
You are the type of expert who can answer questions for 'em noobs
 
I use a custom rom that stops the charge of the battery at 75% sure it reduces capacity but it increases longevity.
