So whilst heading into the office this morning I was greeted with the wonderful news that a chap decided to park his "Opel Monza 160i GSI" COTY edition smack bang in the middle of the M1 North - Crown Interchange. The news of this spread like wild fire and folks from the East, West and South all flocked to go see this marvel of 90's German engineering.
Pretty soon the number of cars and motoring enthusiasts were so great that the cars stretched all the way back past Southgate in the south, Denver for the drivers from the east and well past Makro for the drivers coming up from Main Reef.

I venture to say that never in his wildest dreams would the owner of this classic, yet modern marvel of a motorvehicle have guessed that his improptu largesse of putting this beauty on display garner him such widespread kudos. The drivers that managed to sneak a look, whilst driving by - all honked their horns, pumped their fists and raised a finger saluting him.

Needless to say there were those amongst the many so desperate to get a look at this wonder, that they tried all manner of side roads - just to get ahead of the rest of the cars waiting in line to catch a brief look of this once in a lifetime event, never to be repeated again until tomorrow.

It was in exactly such a side road, where I encountered this friendly taxi driver of one of those specially imported ( custom built by chinese child labour) people carriers - YYC345GP. We were both so excited to go and take a look at the COTY display - when we met up , having battled the deadlock of a swarm of his fellow taxi driving brethren all of them trying to find a way through the melee of taxi's fighting for an opportunity to either turn left onto the highway or straight down the road that they were heading or right into another adjoining road.

This here you see is where we sealed our wonderful bond. Allow me to explain.
I was on the left most lane, where you have the option of going left onto the highway or straight ahead, avoiding the other 2 turning lanes to my right. You see our desperate driver of YYC345GP and my lifelong friend (bonded in fire) was "forced" to stay in the right hand lanes (no he was not trying to bypass the traffic and push his way infront at the last possible moment) , needing to turn left onto the highway to go and see the COTY of course. This here is where the friendly meeting took place, you see as we were driving side by side and pleasantly floating in the stream of traffic - a nasty little (traffic) island came upon us forcing us to choose. Me needing to head straight and my friend on my right needing to turn sharp left - oh what were we to do - my car proved rather ungainly, as it was close to impossible for it to not be where it was considering the path towards its final destination for the morning. Just so suddenly my friend made a move to the left from the right hand lane, my car screamed out via its horn - letting my friend know that he needs to just take a look to his left and cast his friendly gaze upon my countenance sitting behind the wheel. My friend having not made my acquaintance just yet, cast his dark foreboding look on me with a view to asking me kindly(no he was not trying to intimidate me) if I could make my car disappear and allow him to pass through the place where my car was moving through just at that very moment.
Fortunately for us - we saw it as an opportunity to meet for a spot of tea on his way to the highway. We both brought our vehicles to a halt - prior to these feisty beasts latching onto one another. We sat there in the middle of traffic and communicated in an open and friendly manner as we cemented our friendly bond.
Sadly due to our interlude my friend, the driver of YYC345GP was forced to take a small detour (turning right and heading back around the block into the melee of all the taxis to try and get back onto the highway to go and see the COTY, as an allowance to me), I headed straight down the road, he my friend sashayed away letting me know how happy he was to have met me.

Thank you for skipping and reading this bit here.

Some idiot broke down in the crown interchange this morning, causing massive delays in traffic. Backed up in all directions.
Along my route avoiding this traffic I encountered a typical dick of a taxi driver. Who tried to force me to turn onto the highway, seen as he needed to go there and I was in his way heading straight past the turn - as a result he blocked my way so I was unable to drive straight ahead and he in turn was prevented by my vehicle from turning left. We both sat there in traffic, catching up on our whatsapp conversations, until he eventually realised he needed to follow the road he was on - go around the block, fight his way through the mess that the taxis make that area of town and try to get back onto the highway once again.

They were called "Slopel" for that very same reason back in the day :D

Bwahahaha! :D

I hate these rich folk who park their Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991 along the side of the highways.

Everyone gets rubber necks to see this vehicle of such historical significance, causing massive pileups.

absolutely brilliant

I entered this thread thinking that somebody on this forum owns or manages a dealership and decided to put a Monza on show temporarily for ****s and giggles and posted the pictures. If the thread gets much further it might actually become a viable after hours thing to do.

So basically Rouxenator messed up your morning by showing of his Monza to the people on the M1 south this morning....

Not even Roux will touch a Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991.

It has too much historical significance for him.

I have it on good authority that when an Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991 drives past, the sound of multiple pairs of panties hitting the floor can be heard.

White gloves may be used, apparently, to touch such a specimen.

Did you get a glimpse of the Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991? Did you?

Such a shame that I do not drive on the highway anymore... I am disappointed that I missed out on such an opportunity... A small part of me has died inside...

Sadly I was deprived of the opportunity - partly due to my brief interlude with my new best friend and my pressing need to find a higher vantage point in my office building from which I intended to deploy my telescopic viewing instrument with which I had every intention of catching a glimpse of it as the sun reflected from its shiny paintwork.

This too never happened as office matters intervened

Then I feel slightly less worthless. The urge to end my life has briefly abated.

To have missed the opportunity of a lifetime, is a regret that I will carry for eternity...

Last thing I want is to be regarded a SAMCOR product user of sorts.
