Netflix & Hulu Plus Media Player

Hi,

I am hoping someone can give me a bit of advice. I have finally made the decision get with the new century, and to get myself Netflix and Hulu subscriptions. But now I need to know if anybody can recommend a great media player to use with these services, not Xbox or PS3, I would like a separate device.

Also would like something fast, I have read a couple of reviews that the interface of the Western Digital devices are sluggish. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, Thnx.
 
Roku 3??

Pretty nifty little box. Got mine through Amozon(USA). There are other alternatives - just browse the forum. . .
 
I have the WD TV Live and yes it is extremely sluggish and prone to buffering on a slow line. I also have a chromecast and while it may work fast, the quality is lower.

Thanks for getting back to me, Funny enough,I was also looking at that one, does the inface run smoothly?

Where did you purchase your Chromecast?

Never had problems with mine. They have regular updates - so there is ongoing support. I find the interface to be very responsive.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. Well that settles it, Roku 3 it is for me, last question what package are you on with Afrihost, also joined them last night on a 4Mb Uncapped so far very happy, but need to be sure I am on the right package for streaming media?

10Mb Uncapped (Business) - The best there is!! :love:
 
Very Nice, my line can't go that high due to distance, hopefully the 4MB Line should be fine for a single stream, will just have to switch to the business option when the Roku 3 arrives from Amazon.
 
Roku 3

I use a Telkom 4mb uncapped account with no issues.
Used to have a 2mb account which was equally trouble free.

4Meg is fine for 2 good streams.
 
Mine is also a bit "sh*ty" - don't always sync at 10Mb, but I can live with that.

Normally get very good syncs in Winter, and not so good syncs in Summer. I believe it has to do with moisture and the like. . .
Tried various ISP's and packages before signing with Afrihost. Found them to be the best for me.
 
I would advise running a few test before you decide to select a package.

I found that Netflix would stream perfectly - but Hulu+ would buffer like crazy!! I finally got it almost perfect, but it still buffers on the odd occasion. I put it down to the fact that I haven't got the best Telkom line out there. But see what works for you. . .
 
with the current exchange rate it might be worth while to look at have2have, rather than getting it direct from amazon as it does not seem like there are any SA retailers for the roku

Still cheaper direct from Amazon.

Think I saw the Roku3 on BidorBuy in December when I was looking.

Got a mate going to the US in March so will ask him to bring one back for me.
