Hi all

Setup: Telkom 4 meg uncapped account using Unotelly dns servers, dynamo for JHB and CPT as per their global server page. Pace VDSL router and Asus N66u router, both with latest firmware updates.
Win 8 64 bit with firewall settings allowed for steam, d3, netflix, Apple etc.

Issue: Since March 1, when using internet for browsing, d3, steam, Netflix through unotelly dns servers, getting some strange problems in that it appears that the international portion of the line is pretty slow, and sometimes will not load Battle-net front screens, steam will not load or fail to contact server, d3 very high latency in the 800ms range and youtube performance variance goes up.
If I change back to Telkom dns servers, speed goes back to normal, all apps mentioned load correctly and briskly, and d3 latency falls to around 340-400ms.

Is Telkom actively trying to slow down unotelly from their side? Can they do this technically?
Or is unotelly dns having issues? There is nothing to say so on their client page regarding status.
Has anyone observed the same?
Thanks

Seems there are issues with the local Unotelly servers. Use Ireland instead.

If anyone is still reading this thread, the best non-SA DNS server to use is Germany, as it has the lowest latency (200ms - better than London, Turkey, Ireland, etc)

Here is the response I received from the ticket I logged:

Hi,
You may try switching to the new Johannesburg 197.189.212.164 DNS server and let us know if you have any problems.

Thank you for that info!

I personally am using the new (announced yesterday / 07-04-14) Johannesburg server as primary (197.189.212.164), and Germany as secondary.

UnoTelly HAVE announced that SA users using MTN's backbone (Afrihost / Axxess) will have a few isolated problems (including Facebook videos and access to certain sites) and recommend that they stay away from SA DNS servers until MTN resolve the issue.

I'm with Afrihost, but am still sticking with the new JHB one though, as I don't watch FB videos much, and prefer a 30ms DNS lookup to a 200ms one :)

Thanks for this update. I will also try this new jhb dns :)
