Hi there

Apologies if this is in the wrong thread - please feel free to move it where it needs to be!

Has anyone dealt with pifactory.co.za? I'm now having my second issues with them. We first ordered a Rapsberry Pi off their site (which said the had stock) to be told (once they'd taken payment) that they had no stock and we waited.

Last Thursday I ordered a pi wi-fi dongle from them - according to their website they have 18 in stock. We made payment, sent through proof the following morning. My OH called to confirm payment to be told they don't have stock and to wait a week - despite website saying so and despite them being quick enough to accept payment.

I've been dealing with them today to be referred to as "this woman" in an email. I asked for a manger/owner's contact details to be told they don't have them and as he is the boss he comes and goes when he pleases so no, they don't know when he will be in.

Best of all, they're having "phone issues" where they answer with "hello, hello" and put the phone down. But at one point I got through and they said, we'll call you back - so they can see the number coming up on their side. Me thinks they won't be answering my calls now.

As far as I'm aware, according to the CPA it is wrongful to advertise having stock when they don't (it's wrong full stop!). My guess is I won't hear from this "boss" and will be lucky if I get my dongle, let a lone trying to rather sort out a refund to go elsewhere.

You are absolutely correct. Per section 30 (1) of the CPA: "A supplier must not advertise any particular goods or services as being available at a specified price in a manner that may result in consumers being misled or deceived in any respect relating to the actual availability of those goods or services from that supplier, at that advertised price."

This is commonly known as "bait marketing".

Well that's ...less than optimal, not something (fellow) Pi-hackers would want and, if this is indicative of an overall manner, is something they should know. So, seeing as they give full find-us info, to what I suspect is a VoIP number: 087 731 7181 (can this be confirmed?), how about they get invited to engage (here)? From their contact page:

LisaH, you've omitted location info; *are* you in the greater Jozi/etcetera area that going there is an option?

Look at the logo. It's a logo for a company called G2Security

Fair enough and, in the name of bringing balance to the Force, I posit that they may have posted an old image/not paid attention to the detail for *why* would a company go and deliberately falsify that kind of thing?
G2Security look like they sell security systems and pifactory seems to be a side business so it seems they won't care as much about customer service for it

What amazes me is that you went back and bought another item from them while having trouble with the first item?

How about maybe buying something again? 3rd times the charm and all that. Maybe you'll get good service then? Or how about a 4th and 5th item. You never know, the company might just turn around and be all that it can be after you give it more money?

Oh, that reminds me, I'm a nigerian prince and my dad just died, I need someone to co-sign for the 250 million dollars (US) he left me. All I need is for you to transfer money to me several times for "lawyers fees" and you'll get 10%....

You know, usually when people have been wronged they can't talk about it enough and yet our (so far) one-post-wonder is nowhere to be seen. Which raises the question of whether PiFactory *did* indeed offend/drop the ball in the ways alleged by the OP.
