Why buy Woolworths? You've been duped!

seriously!
i get every excuse from " o its organic.."
to " its healthy"
to " its convenient "
...
..
.

I have an uncle, and a pal at work who's wife is a food technologist and we keep getting the same message from them: food prepared PnP, Checkers, etc are all prepared the same to the same standards and in many cases in the same places, from the same farms etc as woolies stuff.
unilever and national brands simply repack their existing lines for woolworths and a few other shops on order.

you might as well buy no name brand or house brand items: coz thats all you getting from woolies is their own house brand items fancy packed!

i once laughed at a friend who said " i have never got a bad apple from woolies" i was like HELLO!!!! GM seed and produce is done so that you have the same consistencies ALL THE TIME among other things!

i know i'm gonna get blazed for saying this but how can an intelligent human being possibly be duped to think a house brand item is better than a premium item of the same type?

why do you buy from woolies?

i'l admit i do buy from there at times... but its more for the convenience which is subjective anyways.

Salad seems to last longer and on some rare occasions the meat specials are cheaper than pnp.

does it not seem strange that salads last longer? what does it tell you about the produce you are eating- organic or GM?
their meat does look good, and yes i've seen them cheaper than PNP at times. but checkers meat specials rock both seriously!
 
1.) It's not really more expensive than other stores.
2.) It's always clean and the people working at their checkouts are usually friendly.
3.) They have a wider variety of fresh produce
4.) I often get there in the evening and their shelves are empty. It's sometimes annoying, but then I also think that there's fresh stuff there the next day rather than stuff sitting on the shelves.

So yeah. That's why I buy there. Also it's closer to home :).
 
where i live there is a PNP that will knock the socks off ANY woolies: so much so that their deli is lined up into the aisles with white folk, indian, colored, black etc ( just not catering for a single race like most ). you want service, jsut try their bakery: you want something you don't see- next day its there!
woolies is a heck of a lot more expensive guys!
variety i argue is available at competitors too!

PNP douglasdale, spar broadacres and pineslopes, checkers fourways mall and pineslopes...fantastic places to shop!

Oh I should add the ready cooked chicken at woolworths is so expensive o-0 . Yeah I dig checkers

i had the woolies chicken. expensive man!
checkers are a bit smallish, but pick n pay has a properly spiced one!

I make my own food and thus prefer to buy fresh produce - so I prefer the selection at WW.

For deli & pre-packaged stuff maybe (have you compared?), but for fresh produce and regular items it's often cheaper at WW.
 
They open till "ate" at night
 
Their WW branded stuff (salads etc) & fresh produce is - to me - tangibly better. That is entirely sufficient reason in my eyes.

I know suppliers of a certain retailer and asked them about supplying WW...nope WW wants them to invest a pile of extra money into their operations before they will buy from them.
 
Most Checkers stink...really...I can't walk into that shop without leaving within 60 seconds.

Recently I prefer Fruit & Veg (Willowbridge) to PnP.

And yeah. This. I'm not that bothered about my fruit & veg - but when I'm buying things like cheese I prefer to buy organic / freerange for whatever reason. WW always has organic feta, gouda, cheddar. I've never seen those at Checkers or P&P or Spar.

Yeah the overall vibe does contribute. e.g. Today I was standing in front of the hot food section of a certain store contemplating whether to buy something there. Person behind the counter swatting a fly away from her face made that decision easy...
