Microsoft on edge as it prepares to unveil new Surface tablets

I own a Surface Pro 2 - it basically replaced every other device and tablet I used up to now, except for my mobile phone. It can dock to multiple monitors and devices with the greatest of ease and the battery last for days. I only wish they are more commonly available in SA.

Where to buy? Did you import yours?

What did it hit you down for?... and what docking station?

I am monumentally interested in something like a Surface Pro 2, if I can use it to replace my "PC" to a large degree.

I've been looking for a good hybrid, but they are so overpriced locally.
I'm thinking it will probably be cheaper to order it from overseas and pay the import duties.

I was looking at the Surface Pro 2:
- US - $899 (R9330)
- ZA - R17,000
What is going on?
Does anyone know what the customs duties are?

Dell venue pro tablet is also an option, and readily available locally.

Dell also has a docking station for it and 3 different types of covers.

There is a 3G/cellular model, and it has a removable back cover with replaceable battery. From atom through i3 or i5, not sure about i5, atom models have emmc storage, i3+ models have ssd storage.

Definitely on par with the surface tablets.

For that price I'd rather get the macbook - and that is already overpriced

microsoft's own fault the Surface tablet hasn't gotten more market share.
i would've liked to get one for myself, and even for the company would've purchased quite a few.... but even though they seem to be awesome pieces of hardware, they are quite expensive... but the main issue is availability.
If they'd make it easier to purchase here locally, they'd get much more sales.
its probly not only in ZA where there is availability issues.
sure, can order from US, many ways to import.... but then after sales support and warranty issues are piece of mind concern
Dell and Samsung, etc. are getting most of the Win8 Pro tablet sales here

Microsoft have screwed themselves with these brilliant devices.

Overpriced, and not generally available, even in the USA.

Then they complain about poor sales - idiots !

Have been trying to get a decently priced one for a long time, but no luck, and my favourite online stores in the USA don't even stock met hem.

I have an Asus T100 tablet. Works very well and has a keyboard and 10" screen, windows 8.1 and touch screen. At R5500.00 well priced.

Intel Atom processor zippy enough?

Ye. It's a next gen Atom proc. No lag in the device at all. Very impressed with it.
Not tried any games yet (mainly cause theres only k@k available) but it can apparently do light gaming. RTS etc.. No FPS.

EDIT: Seen lots of guys play Diablo 3 on it with no issues. Impressive if true.

No lag....very impressive!

Always thought Atom CPUs were tablet Celeron CPUs, but will have to give it some serious consideration.

I also have a 256GB Surface Pro 2 with Type Cover and the docking station. Bought in the USA. It will replace my desktop as soon as I figure out how to use it with 5 monitors.

It's a real pity this device has such limited availability in only a few markets. It's blazingly fast. Love it.

with HP/Dell we use the USB docking station that has VGA and DVI output, so if u have 2 of those, and use the builtin HDMI, in theory you could have 5 displays.... wonder if thats possible?
thank goodness we only use 2 displays.... 3 or more is too expensive luxury :) (although i'm sure there jobs/functions for which you can be quite productive with >2 screens)
