This has been in the pipeline for a long time now. I've almost gone all-in twice now but other priorities kept popping up.

I already have a full Ubiquiti home network (UniFi) backed by an 8-Port TOUGHSwitch PoE Pro, with 5 open ports. I plan to wire all cams and not worry about wireless. The airCam has no IR but luckily I have sufficient LED lighting outside (floodlights).

I like the airCam product because the price/performance ratio is high, it offers 1MP/720p, runs on PoE, forms a complete package with the airVision NVR and lastly, has a very good rep in the market.

If anyone has gone this route, or has any advice to offer, please post in this thread. :)

Well I'll be damned. Ubiquiti snuck out a UniFi surveillance line-up.

Ubiquiti is pleased to introduce UniFi Video and our new UVC and UVC Pro cameras, which are now part of our UniFi family of products. UniFi Video is our latest and greatest video surveillance camera control software, retooled with all new features and integrations.

The software comes with support for our next generation UVC cameras – UVC, UVC-Dome and UVC-Pro – that feature 720 recording, IR illumination, and a brand new higher quality sensor. UVC Pro models also include 1080p recording, extreme weather protection and 3x zoom capacities.

One of the new features of the new UniFi Video will be a live view that will let you view multiple live camera feeds at once with highly customizable arrangements. This means that you can rotate easily between feeds and see everything that’s happening, as it’s happening.

Not only will you have more video access, but it will look better, too. All camera feeds and recordings captured using the new product will be in high resolution, supporting up to 1080p/30FPS on UVC-Pro models.

UniFi Video comes with deep integration with our cameras, so that you can configure and upgrade any of them quickly and easily, all within the UniFi Video user interface.

Other features of the new software include interactive statistical graph aids and zone analytics for quickly finding and recording specific details in recordings. You can also specifically define your areas of interest for setting up motion recording and notifications, allowing for even more precise readings of the footage.

Additionally, you can customize email alerts for near instant notification when motion occurs in your surveillance area. That means that the next time you want to go away on vacation, you can do so knowing that you’ll know right away if anything is happening in your absence. Alternatively, the new ability to assign different users means that you can enable someone else to keep an eye on your footage while you’re out.

I'm watching the usual suppliers for stock. As soon as these arrive, I'll continue with my project. It'll be on hold till then. I'm glad I saw these before pulling the trigger on airCams. The new spec is unbelievable!

I've also looked at the airCams in the past and IR was a missing feature for me.

Looking forward to your review when the new models arrive :D

The really great thing about the airCams is price/performance. Flood lighting completely sorts out the lack of IR. Now that UniFi Video is coming, I might as well wait.

All the cables can start getting messy so I'm wondering about going the patch panel route. I've not done this level of networking DIY so if anyone has any tips, please do share.

Wow this is excellent news!

Currently I am running a setup of three cameras (Ubiquiti - aircam). It is working extremely well and I am now in the process to add another 7 cameras.

Looking at this new range of UVC cameras it looks like the way to go. The IR will be a welcome feature and the zoom might also be useful in some areas.

Azimuth - we need to compare some notes!

Well for starters, how about sharing your complete network topology? :)

To give you some background:

One Aircam Dome to monitor the inside of my house (wired with CAT5 cable to a network switch). Making use of the supplied POE injector.

Two aircam bullets to monitor the outside of my house. The first camera is connected via CAT5 cable to the network switch. Second camera monitors the driveway gate and is linked via a wireless bridge (two x Nanostation M5).

Wifi is provided indoors via two Unfi units (Unifi AP / UniFi AP LR) and outside wifi is via a Picostation 2HP.

For the expansion of the CCTV I am looking at adding an extra 7 cameras. The purpose of the extra cameras will be to cover the common areas of the townhouse complex where I stay.

The new cameras with IR would be a good call and I really think I will wait for them to be released. It looks like most of the cameras will be linked by wireless bridges (aka Nanostations).

I have 3 of these aircams and the quality is horrible.Ditched them for hikvision bullet cams.the hikvison provide much better value for money.

I am happy with the quality during the day (able to read number plates, recognise faces etc) but I agree during the night the quality is not acceptable. But I guess with IR that might change.

What I do like is the software / web interface. It is very easy to manage and the remote access works well. With the current version of airvision I can just forget about the system and it happy goes on. I get notifications if a camera is offline / motion in certain areas etc.

You can get a 3MP hikvision cam for +- R2200.Miro were selling those 720P aircams for +- R1500.Even the Hiks are not the greatest at night , however during the day they blow the aircams out the water. In fact I was so disappointed with them I've put them back in the box.The aircam software seems very buggy and eats system resources.

Originally I was looking at the Vivotek range of products. But the aircam price point made me reconsider. The hikvision never came up in my research but I will take at look at them - thanks!

As for the software I am not sure if you worked with Airvision version 1 or 2 of the software?
Version two is a mayor improvement and I can assure you it does not eat system resources. I am running the software on Ubuntu and the system load is less than 10%.

Vivotek and the associated NVR are made for Saudis. Here in ZAR we need Ubiquiti. :) I love the term "disruptive pricing".

Which camera would be good for outdoors? I need one that can manage zones using a camera as alert/alarm system.

You can buy from http://www.s4s.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=S4SCC4191. Good entry level hikvision.Orginally when I looked at cameras the aircams kept upcoming up as the best value for money. If I knew about the hiks back then I would never have gone with the aircams.Kinda wasted my money on those things. The hiks are very popular with cctv installers and are more targeted at the industry while the aircams seem more focused on the private users.

I have have hik cams connected to a hikvision NVR with motion detection enabled. So whenever there is movement it make a siren noise + sends an email alert to me.
