I don't see the "Smart" in there anywhere. They should consider changing the name.

So last I heard the new fortwo was due to be launched here before the year end & new forfour Q1 2016. I heard nothing so I mailed Smart SA/MB SA the other day & got the following reply this morning:
Good day XXX.
Thank you for your e-mail.
Please note that the order book has been opened for the smart fortwo and smart forfour for the 52kW engine (manual transmission only) to be launched in Q1 2016.
The smart fortwo and forfour 66kW (automatic transmission only) derivatives are currently planned for Q2 2016.
Please find below the dealer locator weblink, which will assist in locating your nearest dealer and their contact details in South Africa

Merc clearly aren't trying to take on mini here. Maybe they should ditch the stupid as small as possible idea and just make a reasonably priced normal passenger car under the smart badge.

It's rather well priced IMO
The whole point of the Smart car is to make it as attractive as possible to urban drivers whom want smaller cars rather than larger, it's a niche market they are going after, but it works. Pack it full of kit, premium brand at an attractive price and good to go. They're perfect for city driving. Not that I own or want one.
Considering it's a Merc brand, well priced for sure. Then again it's a small car, not going to find many folks paying more than that for the same sized vehicle. Unless it's a Mini.
