OK. So like me, we've all played around over the years with customizing our homescreen. Some of us has got mad skillz, some of us, not so much. But all of us have ideas.

I was thinking, what if we get some ideas thrown into a hat about what the perfect home screen should look like. What it should contain, etc. We'll also have to get someone to design the background for us (not me), as I've realized that this is a very important part to creating a theme.

I will start asking some questions to get the 'brain machines' working, and keep track of suggestions in the post hereafter.

Let's also have some suggestions in terms of questions.

Content:
- A clock?
- A weather widget?
- Calendar?
- Which shortcuts (or how many)

Theme:
- How many screens?
- Colour scheme to be used
- Icon pack to be used?

I want a clock widget, that shows date as well, and maybe next alarm.

A weather widget widget for current conditions, and maybe a 3/5 day forecast.

A calendar widget, that shows upcoming events.

Quite a couple of customizable shortcuts, let's say around 10.

I like having a news RSS, but is not essential, so if this one does not get enough votes, I'll be okay with dropping it. Currently use Feedly app, but its widget is atrocious.

Clock widget - Chronus
Weather widget - Chronus
Calendar widget - Chronus
Customizable shortcuts - Nova launcher and Desktop visualiser

What about some of the questions asked in the OP? Opinion?

Difficult to comment. It is so personal. I might want to use only 3 screens with a couple of well placed widgets and I have an application no one else use. Others might want only one screen and be content going into the drawer for the rest. Maybe you should change the OP to main home screen only. It would be too difficult to generalise because of the diversity out there.

Yea, very much a preference thing.

My home screen has nothing on it, at all.
I also only have two "desktops"
The second has folders with categories and 1 short-cut (maps) as well as 2 widgets on it (Torch, active apps).
The Accuweather app I got free from Amazon puts the temperature on my taskbar and paperland pro gives me a visual of the current weather outside.

Anyway, just my personal preference.

Can use EZ Weather as a widget for weather, clock/alarm, calendar. Good looking widgets and very functional, too. You click on the clock it goes to alarm, you click on date it goes to calendar etc. App itself is also sleek and lightweight.

Things like icons/themes will be difficult. It's so incredibly subjective. I would never use some of those vile wallpapers many others use, for example.

OK. Point taken. Let's do one screen. And hey, I'm not saying we are going to find a 1 screen fits all. When we are done, you can decide to use it or not. Or maybe its just a fun exercise.

What I essentially want us to try and do, is make something together. And something that is not booooring.

A wallpaper, in Themers case, has very much to do with the theme itself. Have a look at my last screenshot which was a themer theme. All those boxes (time and date, weather, news, notifications, shortcuts) is all part of the wallpaper. That's why the first thing I want us to do, is come up with the content, then we can decide on the look and feel.

So essentially, for when you guys start making some suggestions, is that we need widgets that are as plain and see through as possible, as the wallpaper will really be dictating the theme.

EZ weather is a nice suggestion for when you have a random wallpaper that has nothing to do with the theme really. So far, chronus is a better suggestion, but need something that's fairly free. I'll have a look at zooper and see what it has.

Yeah, I know. But my setup, for example, doesn't work like that. It's very simplistic and I can swap around the wallpaper without having to change everything else, too.

Yip, that's the boooring ones mentioned mentioned in the Android Screenshot thread :D

We are trying to be funky here. Work with me dude. You don't have to use it when it's done. ;)

For wallpapers I suggest we go with this or this.

It has a cool Gaussian blur effect so I think it can be quite generic.

I don't know, what do you guys think?

I think everone might be missing my point about the wallpaper. Let me explain, this is my cuurent home screen:

Do you understand what I mean about the wallpaper being an important bit, and making it look super awesome?

I had a similar idea, but forgot to post it on here.

How about MyBronogenMod. We have enough android talent on here to make it work :D

Do you mean that the wallpaper serves as a frame/boundary/base_image etc?

That could work!
