Alright. I hate doing this to companies - but here goes.

For the past month or so - I have been trying to transfer my domains from Hostcow.co.za to Domaincheap. Of course - when I was less experienced and obviously without a head - I registered my domains with the, then reputable, hostcow - however now it seems that their service is non existent (and they lock onto your domains and refuse to let go).

I thought new laws required the domain to be registered under the clients name. Hmm... interesting.

They have not responded to a single ticket I have created - and apparently, they don't have a landline/cell number which gets answered? Only a 'whatsapp' number that refuses calls and does not reply.

My recommendation: Never EVER purchase a domain through Hostcow. If they do get better - I'll change my opinion - but at this rate - there is no way.

Z :/

P.S. http://hellopeter.com/hostcow/complaints/bad-bad-bad-service-1454459 <---- Another customer

EDIT:
Right on the money. Just received a Whatsapp back.

Not because it cannot be sorted. But because there is not even one attempt at resolving the issue. If I was in the wrong - I would admit it freely. But I have been trying to contact them for weeks on end - with no reply.

Domains can't be transferred when it's up for renewal, you first need to renew it with the current host (hostcow in this case) and then do the transfer, after the 6th of the anniversary month. In spite of their poor support, it's not their rule, but ZACR's.

That's perfectly understandable :)

However - more than 2 months ago I sent their support multiple emails asking them to release it for transfer - of which there were no replies.

I just wish they would help out a bit more...

Mmm looking at Hellopeter seems plenty of people have issues with them, the owner specified above for the domain used to run it, but sold it, apparently, or so I gather from the comments on HelloPeter...

Jacques has sold the business unfortunately. I've tried it :(

I've paid the amount - however my transaction apparently "did not process on their systems" - so I have to wait a bit more.

Yea - oh well!

Under the EPP system, you don't need the registrar's express consent to transfer a domain out. The domain's admin contact's approval is all that's needed.

OP,

contact
uniforum.co.za
If you can prove ownership of the site, they can help you transfer it to you...

They had it registered with their email for the admin contact :/

That only applies if the OP / domain owner is the "domain's admin contact" as well. Most ISP register domains in their own name, and "own the client" as well.

I've paid the bills - and am now just waiting for it to reactivate :)

and then you still contact uniform.
show them your details on site.
uniform will then change the contact details to you,

that will then leave you incharge of your own site.

And so by the way...
I call BS on having to pay registration renewal 2 months or more in advance.

Having hosted internationally and now locally...

Renewing domain name happens once a year, so its easy to forget. Have for gotten once on each... :o

The hosts simply sent me a mail stating that I must pay renewal before 30 days over due, or it will be de-registered.

Haha - once upon a time they were great, but now obviously things have gone wrong.

I've moved all my domains- so I'll never have to deal with these guys again.

It's sad when great companies gets destroyed because the new owner fcks up by not caring.
