Current HD PVR users, what to you think of the R799pm x24 Explora deal?

I have been thinking of upgrading to the explora, but couldn't really justify the R2000 once-off cost.

However, this new deal seems pretty great. Any thoughts? I haven't read the fine print.

Can I cancel my contract or give away my decoder if I no longer want it?

Yes. You would need to first cancel the DStv Premium Package Deal contract, pay the applicable settlement and cancellation fees under the contract and then the normal transfer of ownership process will apply.

Our Credit Team will calculate the amount payable upon cancellation.

This is the bad part. 24 month contract :(

Ps. That's effectively R59x24 = R1416 for the explora, not including the savings from 2 years of increase-free subscriptions.

However, guesstimating the usual increases in April 2015 & 2016 (lets say R665 to R705, then to R750, plus the access fee R75 to R80, then to R85), that's R19155 over the next two years with your normal old HD PVR, or R19200 (R800 x 24) with an Explora.

Thinking I should be changing the topic to R45 for an Explora... :wtf:

Hi

Upgraded a couple of days ago, I can't really comment on the deal but the explora rock.
It's still downloading content but I can tell you that the R2000 is worth it.
Kept my PVR as extra view in living room with the explora in my bar room.

My suggestion is Go for it...

SD or HD PVR?

The explora does run a lot quieter and cooler than the old 4p HD PVR i swapped out on the weekend, it was also giving a lot of issues. So if you can go for it.

Will I be able to use my current SD PVR as my second decoder (Extraview)?
Yes but not for long. There's a thread about the email we received recently.

My wife isn't to keen either, but after explaining its only R45 she was more convinced (read "whatever, do what makes you happy"). :)

You want to sign a contract with multichoice for 2 years? Are you on drugs ?

Whats the big deal? Its a fixed amount, unlike most cellphone contracts. And if you are paying the sub anyway, why not. If you loose your job, cancel & settle the contract, sell the decoder. Done.

Now, if your question was "Why are you paying multichoice for your entertainment in the first place? Are you on drugs?" - that, I'd understand.

Agreed I don't get why people are so anti contacts when it is actually a good deal.

Does anyone know if you can walk into a customer care centre and pick this deal up or only through the sms line.

I'd like to be up and connected by the weekend.

I called the helpdesk and they said the only way to get this deal is via the sms line. It sucks because they take at least 48 hours to get back to you according to the automated sms I got back.

I currently pay R665 for Premium + R75 acess fee (or is it for Xtraview? Always get confused).
So to continue on Premium with Xtraview and get the new Explora decoder will only cost me R59 extra each month?
Hmmm.... if you consider that your monthly payments will not increase for 2 years it would mean you almost get the Explora for free.
Do they expect you to take decoder insurance on the Explora as part of the contract?

Sent the sms yesterday afternoon and got a call today. Do not need to take the insurance. They ask a couple of questions for the credit check and then On the Dot will be in contact to arrange delivery. Not sure when this will be though.
