Finally managed to get proof of a traffic offence I commited in April last year. The Breede Valley Traffic nitwits used my residential address instead of the registered postal address. Had it not been for an SMS from Paycity informing me of a summons process being initiated I would still be none the wiser.

My reason for posting is that in the photo one can clearly see a person SITTING on the N1 posing a danger to themselves as well as other road users. Surely the traffic officials should have intervened and removed this person from the road prior to wasting time behind a speed camera? Is it legal to allow that while you fine motorist for minor offences?

Fine was for 95 in a 80 zone, I was under the impression it was a 100 zone.

Yes.

Why wouldn't be be legal?

If a pickpocket steals a wallet from someone in a crowd who is watching a street fight.... should he be allowed to get away with it because another crime is taking place?

And also.. I don't think it is technically illegal to sit on the highway. Just very stupid.

One person committing a possible offence doesn't absolve another when they commit one. But yeah the pigs are making money off you and not the guy sitting

Looks like Grabou?
It's not even worth it to complain IMHO.
Foto is a bit unclear, but if the distance is further than 100m you can try and contest the fine.

At the N1 / Sandhills junction just past De Doorns. I have no problem paying the fine, which I did when I got the SMS. I made a mistake but it is still my mistake so I paid.

Just feel they are bunch of useless cowards who are in it for the money and not for removing hawkers selling stolen fruit from a national road. A few of these fruit sellers get killed each year by trucks.

Funny post.
You're expecting the traffic officers to do their jobs?
BHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I got pulled over and fined R1000 for overtaking a car/taxi driving at 20km/h sweeping for passengers.
I overtook him on a dashed line and the traffic officer proceeded to chase me down the road and pulled in front of my vehicle to cut me.
He wrote out a R1000 fine while busted up jallopies drove by exceeding the speed limit, overloaded taxis, etc.
I proceeded to rip him a new one and told him exactly what I thought of him and his BS ticket.
Strangely enough, I never got that ticket.

Should have slowed down for the obvious hazard in the road

Used to be 100, but it's been 80 for some time.

Lots of illegal people in those yellow lines, selling stolen grapes and fruit. Police have been clamping down on the source of the problem, which is people actually stopping to buy the fruit from these people. They've painted the yellow lines on the N1 red, through the entire valley and they are fining people heavily, if they stop there.

I have been stopped for cycling on the highway before because I was an easy target. On the opposite side of the highway two people were walking so I asked the cops about them and they said they would have to go further and turn around to get to them and that they would be gone by then.

Its not about doing their jobs, its about picking the target that you know can pay and will do so.

Cops are always in it for the money. Pretty sure that yesterday on my way home I saw a metro cop taking a bribe. Woman pulled out her wallet while they were talking outside of her car.

I guess my big frustration here is that they used my residential address instead of my postal address. Had I know about this earlier I would have been able to write them a letter and possibly get a few rand off the fine.

I got a R1000 fine for "impeding flow of traffic" on the M7 to Pinetown. I was in the fast lane doing 115-120km/h constant. Metro Police van is behind me, they suddenly decide to flash their lights and put on the siren. I indicate left to slip onto the middle lane but it's overcrowded with trucks and there was no way to safely cross over.

Those 2 officers pulled me in front of the St. Johns ave robot and fined me for not allowing them to pass... they sat and spent around 20 mins fiddling with stuff before giving me the fine since I refused to pay a bribe. I contested the fine and it got scrapped at Pinetown court.

It doesn't matter how fast you are going, if there is a faster car behind you you need to get to the left as soon as traffic allows.

The fact that the middle lane was full is probably what saved you, and they don't really have any proof. Would be your word against theirs.

Edit: Oh, a family member got one of those fines as well. But his argument was I was doing 120 so if they were faster they were breaking the law. He got the fine reduced but he still had to pay I think.
