So I decided to switch over to MTN.

First try, apply for a new contract on the online store, I was a client of theirs many years ago and they still had an account for me. So I apply, I get an email saying I will be phoned and the application can continue. Days pass and nothing happens, log back into the site and can't find any history of the application. I redo the application and then wait for contact. A week passes and nothing is done.

So online is a fail.

Head into a shop, first silly issue is the bloody shop is closed from 12 to 1:30.. ok.. come back later.
I do my application in the shop and then the system says I am not eligible for credit to get the package I want. Which seems very odd as the contract would cost me under 1% of my salary. I can afford it. The lady says she maybe typed something in wrong, so we do the application again and same result. Ok, so I ask her if she knows whats up, says she can't tell me anything, I ask her if we can phone and see how they came up with this result, she tells me there is nobody she can phone. I ask her if we can speak to the manager in the shop , she says we can't do that either, whats on the screen is on the screen.

So I get up and leave, go to another MTN shop and have a chat with the guy there. He tells me that he will end up with the same result and whatever the system says is final, tells me you can earn 100k a month and get rejected for a R50 contract, yet someone who only makes 4k can get R800 credit, that's just what the system does.

So I walked out went to vodacom and got my new phone from them.

I can go buy a new car tomorrow no hassle but according to MTN , that little figure on the screen is final.

Well I got my new phone, vodacom got my money and MTN ... you got bugger all.

:wtf:

Fail system

You should have taken them outside to look at your car and then asked them why the bank will give you a few hundred k but they wont.
Would have been much more fun if you had the GT-R, assuming you didnt get one(its been a while)

They would have assumed it's stolen, or a fake one :D

Never liked MTN.

VODACOM is the only provider the rest are just there to ensure vodacome does not turn into telkom

I had the completely different experience. Vodacom did not want to give me even a Top Up R49 contract for R50 a month when MTN gave me a Data contract with a modem and a decent phone back then. Contracts all expired and I never renewed them. Saw a awesome deal on Vodacom website and wanted to take the deal and they still did not want to give me a contract.

Went to Cellc and they gave me a iphone 5 contract, Note2 contract and a data contract with a modem.

I just don't know how most of the companies rate your affordability if your details don't change when applying at another provider.....

*ps I now wish Cellc never approved me because then I would not have to sit with their useless products now. Lucky only 2 contracts left and only a couple of months on them left.

Ok, so I decided for info sakes to check my credit report the transunion.

What do I see, well MTNS enquiry.

Date: Enquirer: Contact Tel No: EnquiryType:
2015/01/16 MTN ACQUISITION MOBILE TELEPHONE 011 214 6000 CREDIT APP

And what does transunion have to say about my credit

Your TransUnion Credit Score: 982

That's 982/999, in their excellent range.

MTN must think you've got too much money, and therefore might take out a billboard to slander them if you receive poor service.

It's possible Transunion screwed your affordability most of the time Transunion leaves paid up accounts unupdated, all those accounts can add up and leave you with zero affordability but with an excellent credid record

exact same thing happened to me, exactly the same. walked into a small vodacom shop and i left with a new phone 24 minutes later.

+1

I had a couple accounts that are paid up and closed but still shows on my credit record. Now if I apply for any type of credit they fail me on affordability.......

None of my accounts look bad.. they are mostly "OK" .. or "P" paid up.. couple of "NU"'s and the rest "T" settled early..there are no "old accounts". Ah well.. mtn lose
