Hydroponic drug lab found in Boksburg

A hydroponic drug laboratory has been discovered at a house in Boksburg along with dagga with a street value of R100,000, the Hawks said on Wednesday.

The house was raided before 10am on Wednesday and a couple taken into custody, Hawks spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

Hydroponic cultivation occurs in greenhouses or indoors. It is a form of growing plants under water, without any soil.

Mulaudzi said the lab was sophisticated

"Officers raided the house... and found the extensive crop growing inside a backroom of the property," he said.

"Police found a sophisticated hydroponic growing operation with 72 marijuana plants in various stages of growth. The house also contained processed marijuana that already had been harvested for sale."

Ten tortoises were also found and removed by the Protective Species Unit.

The couple, aged 57 and 50, are due to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court soon facing charges manufacturing and dealing in drugs, and illegal possession of protected species.

Lol, these articles are hilarious.

There was a farm bust in PE 2 days back with over 300 plants, they said that was worth R120 000.
But here we have 72 plants worth R100 000?

Ok so these old timers were dealing in the 'erb. Loose lips sink ships.
 
72 plants = R100,000?

Wow - can't imagine how many millions the empty plot next door is worth.

Simple thing - dodgy looking types throw a handful of seeds and wait. Looks like weeds (pardon pun).

300 Outdoor <> 72 Indoor hydro

Lol, after the PE farm was busted the price went up... supply and demand.
 
Hydro is very expensive compared the local ground stuff.

How do you not know? Hydro is like 10 years old, but the growing process on grows female plants, more potent than the ones grown in the ground.

Trees growing in the field is probably local stuff, lots of seeds etc.

THe roots are submerged into aerated water, not the whole plant.

You either get a pump to dowse the roots by filling up the tank below the plants and then immediately draining said tank often enough to keep roots fed and moist, or spray water over the roots while they are germinated in non-nutritional rocks.

No great advantage in potency compared with growing outside, but it is essential for bragging rights since smokers wrongly equate sterility with a clearheaded buzz. The best system would probably be an outdoor hydro set up since you do end up losing expensive (and artificially produced) fertiliser in your potting soil, but the power bill is humongous for indoor growing.

Better than local stuff and some imports.
It also allows other brands to grow, imported seeds etc
