DO NOT USE THE POST OFFICE TO SEND / RECEIVE MAIL - ANOTHER BIG STRIKE LOOMS

According to the Communications Workers Union (CWU), post office employees will embark on a nationwide postal strike on next Wednesday (11 Feb 2015). This follows on the heels of a crippling strike which lasted 4 months at the end of last year which led to SAPO posing a 1.3billion deficit.

SWU claims that the 8% back-pay promised in the negotiated settlement at the end of last years strike had not been paid to workers as promised. They also want 588 fired workers to be reinstated into their original posts and to claim lost salaries, plus the conversion of 1000's of casual workers into permanent posts.

BE PREPARED FOLKS!!!! This one is going to be protracted and ugly.

Requested new medical aid cards today, they use post office to send cards. Guess I'll keep the old ones for a while longer

Communications Workers Union = CWU

How do you get SWU from that?

Meh... nothing new, haven't seen mail in close on a year and have survived. Everything is switched to emails/sms'. Aholes haven't worked in 'who-knows-how-long', may as well close it officially and leave the ungrateful bastards wondering why there is no money to pay them and keep it running. Reap what you sow. '8% back pay'? for what? So many people in this country would kill for a job yet these bastards seem to think they can get away with a few weeks of work a year, well, now theres no money, you did it to yourselves. gg.

Continuing decline of SA.

So when is our next credit rating coming out? SA will probably make it to JUNK status this year.

These post office strikes are a good thing. Hopefully this will prompt everybody to use email I stead. The only reason I still have one is because of AARTO. The day they catch a wake up I'm shutting the PO Box down - no more paper!

That should have the bells that it is a crap medical aid? I hope you also know the difference between a medical aid and insurance. Eg Essential Med is an insurance and isn't half what it claims to be in my opinion. They use the post office lol.

Don't shoot the messenger.

No intension of this. I passionately despise violence.

So yes they're killing the goose which lays the golden egg. The PO is already in the poo financially. Thing is, email won't get me my parcel delivered or my subscription of Go! or Getalway.

If you need it for "luxury" then it's by choice. I shouldn't have to HAVE one (delivering at home is not an ideal option since I move on average every two or so years)

They're not a good thing. Even Iraq has a working postal service. This sends the wrong message, about the workers and the govt.

One man's luxury is another's necessity. To say a postal delivery is a luxury is to go back >100 years in time.

And I keep getting reminders to pay for my P.O.Box - fvck you you bunch of idiots and to those whom committed to pay you and haven't I hope you lose all your moron supporters and voters.

Context is key here. Needing a PO Box to get your magazine subscription is a luxury.

I'm not saying it should be shut down. It should take on the role as a courier/delivery company and mailboxes should become obsolete. In fact I don't care what happens to th list office, I just don't want people to send me important communication in paper format - I want EMAIL!

Luckily my R9 270x I send via post office arrived just in time.
Was good to have a working post office where I could just go to fetch a parcel.

If I want to courier something to me via a normal courier it costs R170 because I'm in one of those odd places.

Post office I can do it for R30 or R80(fully insured).
If that insurance counts for something.

Any parcel.

There are 100s of countries where the PO works without major overhauls u suggest.
