Telkom plans to close 20 of its 92 Telkom Direct Stores by the end of April 2015.

Long Beach Mall
Malmesbury
Paarl
Pinetown
Welkom
Bethlehem
Klerksdorp
Thohoyandou
Tzaneen
Store (??)
Witbank
Polokwane
Woodlands Flagship
TTN/HO Direct
Silverton
Uitenhage
Jeffrey's Bay
Upington
East Gate
West Gate
Vereeniging

There will also be staff cuts at the other 72 stores based on operational requirements and profitability, etc.

But just calling them takes at least an hour on the phone. Does Telkom know that a company can't run without employees?

I've had the misfortune to go to the Wesgate Mall and Klerksdop stores. The Westgate one had okay service but there were 2 staff members about for the relatively busy store (6 patrons), so it was a long wait.
The Klerksdorp one is in a dodgy area inside a building which I think used to be a post office previously. It is hard to spot it as I drove past 3 times before seeing the logo on the doors. There were nobody inside at 14:00 on a normal weekday and I had to shout "hello?" 2 times before someone emerged to assist me. I recon if they move the shop elsewhere it would attract better patronage.

They should close the Clearwater Mall one - totally useless staff from the consultants right up to the Supervisor.

Very very sad, but my brother once tried to use the Malmesbury Telkom Direct Store and said it was just much easier to get things done with Vodacom (he could actually phone the Vodacom shop, whereas you cannot phone the Telkom shop).

Isn't is laughable that you cannot contact a branch of a telephone company directly?

Eastgate branch is useless... I went there during the week a long queue of 25 people waiting in line.... People got frustrated as the consultant/cashier was busy with a customer for more than 20 minutes and only 2 staff members working while the others weren't bothered. I guarantee you all the Stores Closing down can all be profitable with the right leadership.

Glad the Telkom store in Musgrave isn't closing, I've had great service from them.

Only things I have ever bought from those stores were 3g routers that I ended up using on vodacom.

It's strange then that in PE, in Greenacres Shopping Centre, Telkom opened a second store about 50m from the first one.

That was really pathetic! The Bridge Telkom Direct Shop was converted to include 8ta (noe Telkom Mobile).

Then they opened a mini Telkom Mobile Shop 20m away!

Telkom being Telkom. Someone has to pay to keep The Bridge going.

So we lost the one in the Pavilion and now they're killing the Pinetown one too, wow that's some brilliant planning

The problem is that there are some times when you HAVE to go in to the store, as they can't do porting etc via mail/phone. So the remaining stores will just get worse...

And ironically it's probably faster to go in and wait at a shop for an hour to get something done, than wait for hours for the call centre to answer!

Went to the Hermanus store to close an account today. Wasn't told to go speak on a phone in the corner (like Canal Walk), was done by a staff member on her PC, like it used to be done. In and out under 10 minutes. Was a pleasure.

Yeah, they can close the Westgate store hey! Doubt the staff will even notice that branch is closed. Probably the worst service i have ever experienced in sales/customer service was from that branch.

1 of the guys didnt even look at me when i was talking to him, going into the shop for the 4th time in a week for a replacement router, carries on reading his magazine tells me "Our PC that we use to capture the info for the replacement routers is off line"

he might as well have been chewing gum and sucking his dam teeth while responding!

Can tell you that if you think 10210 service is bad, you can't even call the Long Beach Mall store to find out if they have stock. Rings and then goes to voice mail saying the mailbox is full.

Absolute rubbish experience at the store. Spent 45 minutes trying to get a 3G modem and prepaid data, and after RICAing they discovered they didn't actually have stock of the modem.

Say what?

The Pav one has closed?

Then I really don't understand the loss of the Pinetown store at all, and the one in Hillcrest is too far out and useless.
