Dog poisoning on the rise in the Lambton Klip area.4 hours agoThese dogs were poisoned in Cachet Road, in Lambton, during the past week.The Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF is warning residents that dog poisoning is on the increase in the sector.“Please make sure your dogs are safe at night, after all they are man’s best friend,” said Pine Pienaar, vice-chairman of the unit.“This is such a heartless way for perpetrators to gain access to your premises to lay their hands on items.”He added that leaving items of value in the open for people to see is an invitation to criminals.“In one instance, a roll of cable was in plain sight where the dogs were poisoned,” he said.Last Tuesday, between 11.45pm and midnight, four dogs were poisoned in Cachet Road, Lambton.Three of the dogs died.“The electric fence was breached to gain access to the premises.“On the scene, cut coat hangers, shaped for possible ties (hand-cuff style) and hacksaw blades were found,” Pienaar said.Then, on Thursday, four more dogs were poisoned in Cachet Road, during the same time period as the first incident.The animals were killed with Aldicarb (Two Step), mixed with polony.Aldicarb, or “Two Step” as it is commonly known, was mixed with polony and used to poison the dogs.The CPF pleads with residents to make sure their gates are closed, lights are working to light up dark areas and where there are electric fences these should be free of plants/trees and the fences should be operational.“If you have CCTV cameras on the premises make sure lenses are clean, so that, in a crime situation, clear images will be available to identify the perpetrators.“We also ask that all crimes are reported, so that crime hotspots can be identified and crime prevention strategies put in place,” Pienaar said.The CPF welcomes any suggestions from the community regarding keeping the dogs in the area safe.If you want to become involved in the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF, you can also call the information line on 072 193 8496, email to admin@[email protected] or visit the website at www.lkcpf.co.za.*Other dog poisoning stories:Family heartbroken after dogs are poisonedFamily loses five dogs to poisoning

DOONSIDE DOG POISONER ON THE LOOSE

THE poisoning of dogs has become a serious issue in Doonside over the past few weeks. So far eight cases of dog poisoning had been reported and six dogs have died, reports SPCA PRO Michelle Hannan. The most recent case, a puppy, poisoned this morning is in a critical condition.

According to Hannan the suspect who throws bits of food, laced with something looking like poppy seed with poison in it, has been seen twice by people in the area.

“Unfortunately the dogs had eaten the food before the owners could get to it,” she says.

“The suspect is described as a black male who casually strolls past and throws the contaminated food over the wall and continues on his way. Middleton Road, High Level Road and Adelaide Road in Doonside (all at the top of the Doonside walk bridge, which the suspect uses to escape) have been targeted.

My worst nightmare! Thankfully my dogs sleep inside and don't have access to the front of the house where these people can toss them food. Also 2 of our dogs eat on command only however- no telling what they would do if someone tossed steak over the wall!

If I ever see someone doing something like that, I will gut them on the spot and leave them to bleed out.. fsck the police.

Here people's dogs are like their children. If this guy is caught by the community, anything is possible. My guess is he'll be found floating dead in Amanzimtoti river like a few other evil scumbags in the past.
 
If they are using Aldicarb would it be possible to train your dog not to eat any food with that smell in it?Dogs have a great sense of smell so surely they could easily pick up the Aldicarb in any food.

Dog lovers /experts care to chip in if its possible or how one would do that?

If it's anything like my youngest Jack Russell, she'll just want it more afterwards.

But she's "special" :p
