Just got back to South Africa after being away for 2 years. Used to own a diesel Navara, but now I am in the market for something smaller/more sporty.

So far I have the following:

  • 2nd hand 2014 Golf 2.0 Tdi DSG
  • New 2015 Mazda 3 2.0 Astina
  • 2nd Hand 2014 Mazda 3 MPS 2.3
  • 2nd hand 2015 Golf 2.0 Tsi DSG

Prices for these cars are hovering around R300k to R400k, which is about as far as my budget will go. Any other ideas for other models/brands are welcome.

I am not particularly the street racer type, although something punchy can be fun. I would much rather have a decent sound system; the Mazda 3 Astina and the MPS both have 9 speaker Bose sound systems.

Why no Fiesta ST/Polo GTI (those Golf's are far from "hot" hatchbacks), or even a nice Clio/Megane Sport in the list?

New Polo is being launched pretty soon and well over R300K, you can get the New Fiesta ST for +/- R275K and it's full house.

Neither of those are hot except the MPS... :erm:

Out of you choices noted above the MPS.

I would buy something else with that budget though of which none are in your selection :o

Megan RS > everything else.

However, the parts on French cars are insane. On that Alone I'll take the ST :o

You must have low standards... :D

Have you driven one?

These things are INSANE!!!

'tis true; by default any Renault out of the Renaultsport factory; not the same factory as normal cars are made; are something special.

Not the best all-rounder as the GTI's but for driving enjoyment & satisfaction they rank top of the pile.

Damn, now I am even more confused than before.

How about this, if your budget was R300k, what would you get?
