Independent Power Producers praised the energy department’s announcement on Thursday that it would be opening the door to a host of new possibilities for the private sector.

In theory it could, but in reality they hardly manage 30,000MW

It is great that they install all these renewables and the large geographic spread makes it more reliable, but what is the assured supply of all these sources? 60% of max? 40%?

So SA is about 80th in the world in terms of renewable energy at the moment. We will now become a global leader? In which month and year will we be a global leader exactly? And what exact position will SA hold? 1st ahead of China and the US? 8th behind Germany? 21st behind the UK? Tell us so we can put the champagne on ice. Advance warning though 'cos I need to start my generator
