The Nigerian federal government could be asking South Africa to pay more than R5 million in compensation to its nationals in the country following a spate of xenophobic attacks.

This has emerged even as a South African government official told City Press the diplomatic spat between the two countries had ended and they considered the matter closed.

But national president of the Nigerian Union SA (Nusa) Ike Anyene said the compensation matter would be raised at the next meeting of the SA-Nigeria Binational Commission, which is periodically convened by the deputy presidents of the two countries. The last meeting appeared to have been in 2012.

Fantastic.

If we agree to pay their ludicrous and deliberately inflammatory sum, can we fill these idiots for the harm that some of their countrymen have caused to our economy, all their scams that have fleeced our citizens and the cost of keeping some of their countrymen in our jails? Bloody eejits!

They are owed compensation. It is tax money. Tax money that is not wasted, is lost or stolen.

Would they want compensation for losses they incurred or for their suffering?

OK now maybe we should bring back the xenophobia, another blatant Nigerian scam! Drug dealers and scammers! Kick them back to the crap hole they come from.

LOL, compensation. They should add an "or else" to that. Or else we take back our people. :D

My next door neighbor has lost R60 000 in rental income to a Nigerian. He moved in November 2014 and almost immediately starting short paying them on the rent. The place is standing empty at the moment.

One should never let your properties out to a Nigerian.

Nigerians always looking to score a quick buck.

They don't miss a trick these Nigerians.

Xenophobia is bad mkay but, when so many of your citizens are here illegally, dealing drugs, pimping and just generally being thugs best be quiet lest our elected thugs suddenly develop the will to do something about them. Oh wait, carry on, Nigeria, carry on.

I'm sure that there is a bonded warehouse somewhere that has a safely deposited sum of money, say about forty million dollars ($40,000,000), that could be used to pay the compensation. All we need to do is shop some poor widow who was hell bent on stealing the water project funds and the Nigerian authorities can fund plenty of xenophobic claims.

Maybe they should ask the good king to pay it?

After all he started the recent unrests with his comments.

Oh wait, they'll just fleece us taxpayers more...
