mozambique honeymoon holiday

Hey all,

so i need some info, planning to do a holiday next year in moz, obviously upper part of moz.

anyone with a good experience of beach resorts, where to go, things to do, which agents to use etc?

I see March is just outside of cyclone season but high possibility for rain?

any advice.

I asked around about that and not too many know what it is. Both in Moz and the Porra folk here in SA. Some friends of mine from Nelspruit always had it and it was the perfect thing after a heavy meal. Then the drinking can really start.

because to me that is the better part and i havent been, i have been to maputo and that is dirty and filthy and full of corrupt cops, so then i would just stay in jhb?

We went to Archipelago resort (in Vilanculos) last year for a wedding, was a very nice experience and quite a bit of relaxation or activity, whichever you prefer.
But take the flight there :-) Driving is half a nightmare (or so my friends said).

Tofo beach, Inhambane. Really amazing place and experience, we just rented a house on the beach there. Take note,like Gallderhen said, driving took 18-19 hours, rather fly if going north of Xai Xai.

Yep,

Inhambane (Barra), Tofu, Guinjata Bay, Vilanculous are all awesome places and would definitely recommend them, especially out of season. It will be lekker quiet in March, perfect temperature and warm sea.

Activities: Snorkelling, diving, horseback riding, catamarans, deep sea fishing, quad biking, kayaking, massages etc.
 
I roadtripped there for my own honeymoon 5 years ago. Also in March, had a couple of thunderstorms but nothing torrential.
Went with a normal sedan, 5000km from PE, up to Barra . Cost me round R15k only at the time for 14 days, most expensive was the fuel.
We alternated by camping 2 nights at a place, then 2 days in rented house or guesthouse at the next town. Worked our way down back to Maputo.
Research your route and accommodation properly before hand, I think my research took longer than the actual trip.
When I go again, I would make Barra my base for the full time and do day trips from there.

a regular car was fine? last time we went the roads lower down were bad and i heard some places there is basically just sand roads
 
We flew to Vilanculos last year in December as a end of year work function, we stayed in the beach resort "Vila de paraiso".

It was just about the most relaxation I have had. The resort does boat trips out to all the islands around Moz. They offer snorkeling and fishing too.

All I can say, bring sunscreen, lots of it. 10 minutes in the sun, after using sunscreen, and I was burnt to a crisp.

Audi A4. There are a lot of tarred or gravel roads up and the Chinese were busy resurfacing some at the time. We were in Barra, Inhambane, Tofu, Chidenguele and Xai Xai and small island like area of Macaneta via dodgy Ferry boat.
It will always be the case that you might say "if only i had a 4x4 I could have gone there too" but we could not even do all we wanted in the two weeks we were there.
We did got stuck once and a local towed us out, but it was a case of GPS shortest vs best route and an error from our side, there was a tarred highway we were supposed to take.
Potholes there are plenty but no more than some parts of Freestate or Mpumaplanga.
