Open Access Fibre Initiative for Vorna Valley - Live!

Hi guys.

I'd like to ask that anyone that stays in Midrand and wants FTTH, support this initiative driven by Link Africa, the same guys that partnered with Constantia Fibre.

The website follows the same approach as the Constantia Fibre initiative and gives one a nice survey status map of the area along with some useful graphs and stats after you complete the survey.

What I also like about this initiative is the fact that Link Africa, follows a closer "open access" model than some of the other players currently out there. I believe that this will allow for better competition among the ISPs and in the end benefit the users more.

Link Africa is changing their strategy and they are no longer looking to reach minimum numbers. They are now instead looking for a non-commercial commitment(preferred partner) agreement from the associations like home owners or body corporates.

This is great news since it means that complexes and communities can more easily get fibre access without worrying about minimum commitment. If you live in the Midrand area and can get your body corporate or home owners association or even your residents association for your area to make a commitment Link Africa will come and install fibre.

If you are interested and can organize your respective BC,HOA etc. to commit please pm me so that we can setup a meeting with Link Africa. This commitment still allows any other party to come and install their fibre.

Have you punted this to the residents associations? Vorna Valley in midrand has a fairly active one on facebook.

My complex needs to also go and complete this survey still. The previous one they did was a simple Google survey one for our complex only, but we did get 40% interest in that one. Then we decided to go big and get the whole of Halfway Gardens involved, and now it's grown to be the whole Midrand area! I also need to go to the other complexes in my area and speak to their body corporates.

Btw. Currently I'm looking for more people to get involved with this project and help spread the word across Midrand. I'm thinking of contacting the Midrand Reporter paper and asking them if they would be willing to print an article about the project.

This is good news, still trying to spread the word but it's been a bit busy recently.
 
Hopefully I'll be moving to Midrand next year, if all goes well.

Gonna be staying in a complex near Erand/Carlswald (according to Google Maps).

Definitely interested in a fiber connection.

How far along are you guys? Has any fiber been lit up yet, or are you still in the planning stages?

Link Africa and we the community are still in the planning stage. Will probably meet next week to discuss roll-out. But I'm happy to say that the Vorna Valley Residents Association also joined this FTTH effort.

There will probably be some press release in the Midrand Reporter sometime.

Signed. I recently moved to Midrand. I'm a huge gamer and stream a lot on Twitch, so Fibre is a must for me. Hopefully something will come up in the Noordwyk area...

Can you clarify please what this "non-commercial commitment(preferred partner) agreement from the associations like home owners or body corporates" actually entails?
 
Just wondering if there is any update? I've being trying to find contact info for whoever is in charge of Phoenix View Estate, but no luck so far :(
 
Any updates on this one? I signed a while ago but no feedback except routine thank you mail.
 
Have you guys tried contacting Greencom to do the whole of Midrand?

If you haven't you should try them.

I tried them before this initiative even started, they only seem to be covering select estates.
I couldn't even get any info from them regarding minimum commitments etc...

Link Africa is rolling out in Vorna Valley because they have a residents association and since the rest of Midrand doesn't we are taking the back seat.

Also seems not many people spreading the word currently.

I actually got contact details with my body corporate. Just waiting to see if they can do anything..
 
So I contacted the Body Corporate and got the following response:

"the fibre issue will need a special meeting to obtain a resolution from the Body Corporate once the relevant info is received on this proposal".

I have no idea where to go from here.

Can anybody help?
