An urgent court application to prevent the South African rugby team from participating in the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England and Wales next month has been launched by Agency for New Agenda (ANA)‚ a political party formerly known as South Africa First.

The basis for the party’s application is an alleged lack of transformation in the sport‚ which it claims is still dominated by whites‚ and that the team does not fully represent the majority of South Africans.

The respondents in the matter are the Minister of Sport and the South African Rugby Union.

The matter is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday (September 2) in the Pretoria High Court before Justice Mavundla.

The party has also written to the International Rugby Union requesting that South Africa be suspended.

In court papers‚ ANA says that although much has been achieved in the past 21 years to transform the country “it is common knowledge that some citizens … resist such transformation and continue to practice activities‚ acts and conduct that are premised on unfair discrimination based on a number of criteria‚ including race”.

Pathetic. When people like this see past race, maybe then SA will move forward.

While I may not like the constitution of this team going to the RWC, I think this is a rather extreme way of getting the point across. Also, if the sports minister wasn't happy with the team, surely he should have stopped it being announced?

Def not what I expected either... BUT, I want the people behind ANA to reveal themselves... names etc etc etc, just so that we know who we can brand as a moron.

Not even going to say what I want to ........ I'll just add it to the glad-to-be-gone list. This place is never going to change.

The issue with transformation of rugby and cricket needs to be dealt with. This isn't the way to get it done. More should be done at a provincial level. Management and coaches who will not encourage transformation should be eliminated from the sport.

Agency for New Agenda (ANA) :erm: Some PR guy working for that party knows that this a sure way to get free exposure. How many people had even heard of these idiots before this week?

I remember one of the unions (Solidarity?) or right wing interest groups wanting SARU to be excluded due to the quota system.

If the court rules in these idiots favour I'm going to start a Kickstarter campaign to get the team it's plane tickets and accommodation, as soon as they're out of SA the gwavament can stfu

Correct me if I am wrong, but was South Africa not banned from international competition in the apartheid years on the grounds of "political interference in sports "

Quick, someone form a movement to diversify South African soccer.
