Could this be where the real pressure to censor ZA internet (FPB etc) is coming from?:

"It may not have intended to, precisely, but the United Nations just took sides in the Internet’s 'most brutal culture war'."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...l-dangerous-vision-for-the-future-of-the-web/

"...the United Nations then goes on to propose radical, proactive policy changes for both governments and social networks, effectively projecting a whole new vision for how the Internet could work."

"...it repeatedly suggests both that social networks need to opt-in to stronger anti-harassment regimes and that governments need to enforce them proactively."

At one point toward the end of the paper, the U.N. panel concludes that “political and governmental bodies need to use their licensing prerogative” to better protect human and women’s rights, only granting licenses to “those Telecoms and search engines” that “supervise content and its dissemination.”

YOUR PAPERS, THEY ARE NOT IN ORDER

they have a stake in "trying" to enforce the internet

Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn are at the helm behind this... and while I agree that harassment online needs to stop, those 2 are the worst most misandristic people to lead this campaign

Best quote on the reddit link

let's ignore the biggest victims of actual violence (males) and concentrate on people who have their feelings hurt online.

Harassment online can already be fought with law enforcement. People have been prosecuted for cyber stalking and trespass and so on.

There is no need to do anything stupid.

I don't think this is about Western low level SJWs like these. It's basically the ever more influential non-Western countries wanting to curb a Western thing, freedom of speech.

they have a stake in "trying" to enforce the internet,

internet can NEVER be truly regulated! it was designed to outlast humanity

It can be regulated enough, that for the common folk, it would contribute effectively to the makeup of the prison planet.

Yes, a few Neo's out there might be able to use it in ways 'discouraged' by the powers that be, but whether or not it will benefit the average Joe is debateable. The average Joe want's nothing to do with Neo.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, Ellen Pao, Anita, Zoe, they're all mentioned prominently in the actual report itself. It might be that their interests merely align with those of more oppressive governments, but it's definitely a big part of it.

UN Report said:
Viral rape videos, which have become particularly commonplace in South Africa, is one such example.

Particularly commonplace. Swimming in them.
