TP-Link Archer D7 review

I have the little brother of the Asus without the dual-band wireless. It's amazeballs. The amount of configuration (automated and manual) you can do on it is awesome. You can tweak the cr*p out of your dsl line.

I like Asus and have used a couple of the higher end modems. Very decent software etc.

The issue is that quite a few of the cheaper modems have given me issues. So I'm slightly hesitant.

I'll wait for more feedback, hopefully others have more technical input.

Currently I'm using a D-Link DSL-2500U single port modem/router and D-Link DAP-1360 wifi AP (which I don't think is too good).

I received my Archer D2 yesterday and so far it's been smooth sailing, this is my mini review I posted in another thread:

Also for anyone that maybe stumbles upon this thread while searching for the Archer D2, it's pretty awesome thus far, my SNR increased from 12 to 16.5 and my line attenuation went down from 12.5 to 9.6. My Galaxy S6 network speed more than doubled from around 70-80Mbps to 170Mbps and my iPad 3 went from around 25Mbps to 55Mbps.

I'm 100% sure you will be happy with the ASUS or the TP-Link, I think it comes down to personal preference. I just can't see myself paying R700 more for the name ASUS and one extra USB with slower Wi-Fi.

Saw your review, thank you, and it does sound promising.

What did you have previously? Has your wifi range improved?

Are you using the 5GHz wifi?

There's about a R400 price difference between the two. I've just always trusted Asus, and always chose D-Link over TP-Link.

I had the MWEB Fon, Technicolor TG589VN v3, my range is the same but the speed at the same distance has improved. I am using the 5GHz on my iPad and S6. I am currently waiting for my new wireless AC adapter to arrive.

What are the prices you are paying for each of them, my calculation shows the price difference to be closer to the R600-R700 range.

I sent you a PM regarding pricing and my final thoughts, I'm 100% sure you will be happy with either the ASUS or TP-Link. Remember to give a mini review on the one you end up buying.

I went with the TP-Link Archer D7 with 450Mbps 2.4GHz and 1,250Mbps 5GHz. Very happy.

-Good packaging, seems like there is more care and effort here. Simple things like the antennas in a plastic bag/bankie where other manufacturers just chuck them in the box

-Power supply has a good weight to it

-After updating to the new firmware, the new web UI is excellent (see screenshots)

-Easy to set up and configure

-Much better wifi performance, even Speedtests are more consistent than my retired D-Link 300Mbps AP

-Much better wifi range and signal quality.

All,

I have had this baby for the last 5 odd months - and absolutely no issues. 5Ghz channel is awesome (just making sure that all your other equipment support this otherwise it defaults to the 2.4 network). Good wifi coverage in my house, and I definitely find it a bit more stable than my old Netgear. I think I only had to reset this once in the last 3 months...
