Telkom adjusted downstream once I went to their speedtest , is that possible??

For a while now my speedtest.net result has been 1mb down and 100kb up on a 4mb line with axxess.

In my router it shows 1000kbit as downstream and always does..

So after checking this forum, I decided to phone telkom and went to the website to check the number (10210)
Whilst there I saw a link for a telkom speedtest so i clicked on it after literally using speedtest.net and viewing router information showing 1mb.

I switched between tabs and noticed that the dsl information now says 4000kbit??
So i redid speedtest.net and now I get 4mb down and 1mb up??

What has happened here, are Telkom keeping linespeed down until people notice?

Its not a coincidence as it has been 1mb for a while now.
 
... just an idle thought but Telkom introduced an automated sync adjuster around the beginning of the year which upset a lot of users as it seemed only to downgrade the sync speed. Maybe using the saix speedtest (http://capetown.spdtst.saix.net/) triggers sync rate optimization?
 
Is this related to the automated sync adjuster? my line is a 4mb and has always had a downstream 4096 now It is at 5120>

+1 My line is now also syncing at 5117.

Mode: ADSL_2plus
Type: ATM
Status: Up

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 277 250
Attenuation (dB): 160 92
Output Power (dBm): 194 120
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 23432 1123
Rate (Kbps): 5117 509
D (interleaver depth): 511 32
Delay (msec): 13.44 15.8
 
I have a similar issue, however I do not believe I had visited any speed test site.

Usually when my line has noise, rebooting the modem will sync at various speeds that a lower than the usual 10240
This time though, no matter what I do it is always syncing at 7645 downstream.

I thought it was the heavy rains from this past weekend until i came across this thread.

Yeah, ive always had troubles with heavy rain in the cape but i had the router
Page dsl info open and i saw it change in the space of a minute . it had definitely been 1mb for a while .

The other thing is that I get increased DNS errors with my ISP when it rains and this also seems to have gone now .
 
Interestingly I have to walk back my comment.

I keep a spare router and I decided to use the spare. I am now syncing at 10239 down and still 947 up.
So i am happy things improved a bit, though I do not understand why my upload remained at 947 instead of the usual 1023

1mbps upload on a 4mbps line, that's a new one.

Telkom's ASSIA system is still broken I see.
There's absolutely no reason why your sync needs to have interleave path, especially given your line stats. Your latency has now increased by 30ms for no purposeful reason.

Same here. I wouldn't mind keeping it like this :) I am on a capped account.

OK, seems Telkom (Openserve?) have screwed up in a big way :mad:

My SNR is in the toilet and I'm now syncing at 11262/945 :confused:

Weather in PE has been great and yet I've gone from:

I've had the exact same issue in the past (This is again the ASSIA system making stupid decisions). TelkomZA will sort you out ;)
 
This is my Telkom ISP "up to 4Mbps" connection to server in Cape Town

Last Result:
Download Speed: 3542 kbps (442.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 434 kbps (54.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 28 ms

My latency has also raised by 30ms for some reason, I hope this will change back to normal.
 
Strangely enough, my line speed also dropped Yesterday (from 40Mbps to 36Mbps) and 1080p Youtube vids are buffering. Something is up.

Edit: Latency also up by 20 - 30ms
