DStv vs GOtv – prices and channels compared

DSTV mobile, decent channels including supersport 1 to 4, R49 a month... Yes, bad quality but the demographic that Dstv are targeting would surely want DSTV mobile over go

GoTV is basically only attractive to households that haven't done comparative research. It's feeding off consumer 'ignorance', which (to me) is a rather cynical approach to the market. Families who don't know any better will end up paying the higher margin.

I hope it fails until they align price to value.

MyBB lists 11 channels… GOtv shows 12.

In what universe is 12 "over 12"?

EDIT: Ok - MyBB excluded/forgot "TLC Entertainment" from their list.

This is just another shameful attempt from monochoice to trick poor consumers out of their money. For the channels on offer I would think R29 is a fair price, not R99.

I think the thing most people missed here was
Rayner said the number of channels available on GOtv is currently limited by the bandwidth Icasa has assigned them.
- ICASA is the limiting factor here again.

I guess the trick is do you go for the high value channels and limited subscribers or the more broad, cheaper channels to get a bigger base of users. I suspect some gov mandates come in to play here on how spectrum gets assigned and so forth.

I wish they could do 12 of the great channels like National Geographic, Discovery, new movies, latest series, proper news channel and maybe 3 main sports channels.

GoTV is a BEE channel, now I know how Monochoice thinks.
Now we know how you think too.
Are you saying it isn't?

Either way it makes no difference to me until they align price to MY value. I'm really keep to see how this plays out. DSTV is mostly legacy users begrudgingly paying. I doubt lots of people will be goign for DTTV at the same prices.
