FTTH speeds during the day (8am to after 10pm)

Before I let rip and blast Webafrica apart, I want to find out is anyone else having speed issues on their FTTH lines between 8am and 10pm during weekdays and only having full line speed over weekends?

This is on a 100Mb FTTH connection at home.
40-60Mb during the day, every day, between 8am and 10pm, then only back to full speed.
Weekends from Saturday morning 12:15am-ish to Monday morning 8am it runs between 94 and 98Mb, no problem, then drops to half speed again.

Also, can someone chime in about FTTH being a "best effort service"? This is according to WA.

Mickey D? Anyone else who is a fibre guru?
Does not matter what ISP you are using, is anyone else having similar issues?

Seems like a description of a IPC shortage, FTTH guys are the first ones to notice it.

Only way to really tell would be to test another ISP during those times and see whether the same issue prevails.
 
If this is on an uncapped package, then this is the type of service you could expect from ANY isp unfortunately. If it's a capped product, then you really should start looking at testing a different ISP as they would have no excuse to shape you during the day like that then
 
Who is your fibre provider?

With fibrehoods and Vox as a provider I have noticed a 15 - 25% drop in speed during the day but not every day and not consistently. Normally resumes full speed by the evening. This is a capped fatpipe unshaped account.

That is your assumption.

It could be a problem on Web Africa's side... on their network configuration, on the product configuration or that they do not have sufficient IPC to handle the uptake on FTTH. It could even be an issue with his physical line, his ONT, his modem, his software setup, who knows.

Occam's razor.

What's the most expensive part of the whole chain, and thus most likely to be the bottleneck?

IPC.
 
one day... i too shall have the privilege to complain about getting "only" 50-60 Mbps during the day
