Fujifilm X-Series Thread - Lenses and Bodies

Couldn't find any definitive thread discussing the Fuji X-Series range of bodies and lenses, seems there are some fans of this rather amazing camera system so let's make this the goto thread for info and thoughts on this range of camera kit.

I got an X-M1, very impressed, love the light weight and flip out LCD(I like using it something like a rolliflex at waist height). Image quality is very good even with the kit lens, virtually no noise in shadows and lower light, big selling point is it has the identical sensor to the flagship Fuji bodies of its generation.

What lenses have Fuji owners got?

Keen to get some good glass, Fuji lenses are relatively cheap in comparison to the big 2.

Got some awesome news, for me at least. I heard Canon flashes and wireless trigger work with Fuji bodies in manual mode, just tested a Canon 580ex, Yongnuo Rf-603C wireless triggers and all working perfectly. What a pleasure. Though on the X-M1 the screen goes dark after it gets focus(exposure preview which obviously won't be able to factor in the flash light), not a train smash and on some higher end bodies the exposure preview can be disabled.

Even better Fuji has a flash mode called Commander mode, which is essentially a low power flash to trigger optical slaves, I've got a set of optical flash triggers and it works perfectly, even more convenient, don't need to setup 4 wireless triggers(and maintain 4 sets of batteries), optical triggers have no switches or batteries. Just switch on the flash with the optical slave attached and good to go.

Moving from 5D behemoths to this dinky little powerhouse is nothing short of amazingly fantastic!

Yup, I use my flashes on-camera, off-camera and use my strobes.

X-T10 owner here.

Very happy.

I have the 18-55mm/F2.8-4.0 kit lens.
Do you or anyone have any experience with the full frame equivalent to compare, it's a similar focal range to the old faithful and one of the all time greats 24-70mm F2.8? (Canon and Nikon each make a highly regarded lens around that focal range)

And how does it compare to the 16-50mm lens?
That's what I'm using at the moment, it's rather awesome and I'm wondering if it's worth getting the 18-55mm(or rather using that money for the 35mm 1.4) the difference may be marginal vs 16-50mm but that extra bit of wow factor/creative control is what ponying up for pricy lenses is all about.

Edit. Turns out they do make a 18-55mm constant 2.8, no IS though. Must be incredible, looks like local pricing will be over R20k though.

X-T1 with XF16, XF18-55, XF35 and XF60 Macro.

XF16 is just incredible.

Welcome!
Yikes, the man with everything really has everything!

You not keen for something along a 35mm 200mm 2.8 equivalent?
I'm thinking of getting an older manual lenses, perhaps Nikon, and a mount adaptor for that focal range.

Portraits or isolating any subjects, something around a 200mm 2.8 is a deadly weapon.

Doing well with the shorter lengths, don't really need anything longer. ;)

By the way, the Fuji's use DX sensors with 1.5x crop factor (in case you didn't know).

One of my favourite XF16 shots.

Very nice, money shot :)

I think Fuji make a 140mm 1.4 that's a 200mm 2.8 equivalent. Good to remind me of the crop factor, an adapted 200mm becomes 300mm on Fuji. If you haven't put a Pro level 200mm 2.8 through its paces I'd give it a try, there's good reason it's such a widely used lense, not for all occasions but when it's needed it's without compare.

What shutter speeds can you guys sync up to? With optical triggers and the native flash in Commander mode I can go up to 1/250 with no banding, with the Yongnuo triggers only 1/160. Ye old faithful 5D could only do up to 1/125.

If I remember correctly some Fuji bodies have a leaf shutter that can sync up to 4000?

Just a heads up, the Joby GorillaPod Action Tripod with Mount for GoPro is on special at Takealot:
http://www.takealot.com/joby-gorillapod-action-tripod-with-mount-for-gopro/PLID29970597

The great thing about this tripod is comes with a pretty decent metal ballhead that uses quick release plates. The GorillaPod in this bundle is identical to the one they make for Mirrorless cameras(rated to 1kg) just with a bonus GoPro ballhead quick release plate(which normally sells for around R100 on their own and can be adapted with a R20 eBay Gopro to camera tripod adaptor for an extra quickrelease plate that can used with other camera gear).

I got one, carries my X-M1 with 16-50mm perfectly.

Been wanting to get a GorillaPod forever but the proper DSLR version is almost R2k with a ballhead, they are as useful and handy as they look, only drawback is the height, if you want eye level perspective you need to stand them on something, table/rock etc. Also very versatile flash stands, holds a 580EX with bounce no problem.

Thanks for the heads up. Been wanting to get a Gorillapod too for especially when I'm taking photos of food or smaller items at home and the lighting is a bit bad. Hate pushing ISO even though the X-T10 handles it like a pro.

On mobile currently with bad reception so takealot is not loading for me.

Is this a Daily Deal or will it still be running tomorrow? Can't see if stock are limited.

Asked the wife to order it from home. Too afraid I miss the special because it is a really good price.

Guess a bit of FOMO.

Been on special for a few days but I've learnt the hard way, if you want something on special and it's a bargain price then do not delay, nothing worse than sold out or Takealots way these days is limited numbers on special then reverting to the full price.

It's worth every penny, the nice ball head and quick release plates included sold it to me.

Having a light camera rig makes quite a few things cheaper, smaller bags/tripods etc, never mind not needing to lug near half your bodyweight in gear.

Great price! R815 from Orms. Guess I'll have to get one. My Manfrotto doesn't get low enough.
