Hello everyone.
Please have a look at my ADSl connection stats and tell me what should I do.
My line used to sync at 4096 down and 512 up but now ... :(
Why is that? I pay for a 4mbit line and basically get a 2mbit one.

For some mysterious reason Sunday my line got locked to a 16Mbps sync profile, called Telkom and asked the lady to please change me back to 20Mbps and reset the port, rebooted router and everything was great within 5 minutes.

I think that's what happened to you because you are syncing at exactly 1024 x 2.5, that's too much of a coincidence to be that exact number.

It's just ASSIA DSM, your exchange probably got upgraded with the new software. I saw on the SAIX notice board that they have been busy rolling out upgrades to a number of exchanges nation wide. Just contact telkomZA and ask him to lock your profile at 4mb :). your stats look fine, no worries there.

You are 100% correct. After logging a fault with telkom a few days ago, some telkom engineer (huh...) from Capetown called me and told me that 2 weeks ago my exchange got upgraded with new software and the DSMS locked my line at 2.5 x 1024. He changed that to 4 x 1024 :) All is fine now but my question is why was necessary for the technician to intervene? Why did the new software not recognize that my line should be 4mbit and not 2.5?

try these:

check with your isp to see if you've been throttled. if not ask Telkom to rebuild your port

First power cycle the router

Throttling doesn't change your physical layer sync speed.

Same here
Reported and can't see anything wrong on their side

Seriously ! how can Telkom still be in business ?
Absolute no accountability ! just take your money

Edgemead area
My 2mb line downgraded to 1mb, voice line completely dead

Router stats
SNR - 6.odb
Atten. - 62.5db
Data Rate - 928
Forward Error Sec - 65504

ISPs don't apply any rate limiting (shaping or throttling) on the line itself. That is handled by the ISP's routing and controller infrastructure and never on a DSL line...

It may be ASSIA, but it appears to have been the result of a temporary issue with the line, looking at the low number of errors and types of errors involved, as well as SNR and attenuation stats.

It's unlikely to be as a result of software upgrades. They typically don't take lines down, and those notices on SAIX for software upgrades are 9/10 just ordinary cyclical maintenance notices...

That is because you have the worst line stats I've ever seen.

Lol

Ok, well this answers my question I just posted. Maybe I keep my 16mbps and 11db noise rather than up to 19mbpd and 6db...

If you didn't have issues with your line for the 18 months it synced at a higher speed you can just ask Telkom to change you back to 19Mbps with 6dB.

My line is happily synced at 20Mbps with a 6dB SNR and it's rock solid.
