Hi Everyone

About three months ago I moved, I finally got webafrica to move my fibre line to the new address a few blocks down from where I use to stay.

Last week (Thursday) my fiber went completely dead, flashing red light on the fiber link I reported the problem to Webafrica, I got a call from telkom on Sunday, they sent out a technician on Friday and on Saturday to help, but they sent him out to the wrong address, my old address, I gave Telkom my correct details, and forwarded their response to webafrica.

Now on Monday, I got another call from telkom, the technician was dispatched again to the wrong address, I forwarded the correct details to them, and within 5 minutes got a call from Webafrica, I told them the story and they promised me today, (Wednesday 31 August) they will send out another technician to the right premises , this morning right as I was leaving home Telkom Phoned again, the technician was sent out to the wrong address again ...

Where do I go from here, Webafrica has stopped answering my PMs and emails, and I am sitting without internet for a week because they refuse to send the technician to the correct house?

PS Webafrica is so confused in one of their emails they thought I was moving house again and wanted to do a new installation for me :/

Hi Everyone, just thought I will update here, even tho no one has responded here, and I can see a lot of people reading and it might be useful to some one.

After many attempts I finally got in touch with the CEOs Personal Assistant, who in tern forwarded my request to the right people, according to them I had the wrong BN number, they used my old number not the new one, this has been changed and I was promised once again that a new technician will be dispatched this time with the correct information.

Lets see what happens tommorow.

A technician came to my house at 12, sadly there is a break in the cable 135m away from my house and apparently that is a completely separate telkom department and the wont be able to help me today.

Hi FaSMan,

As per my reply to your PM I will follow up with our guys to see if we can get Openserve to come out and resolve the line break issue asap.

Just a quick update:

two telkom technicians came on sunday, they spent most of the day trying to trace the cable and eventually gave up so they patched me into one of the other fibre links but could not find it on the exchange, today they came over and spent another 2 hours to find it :)

I am eternally thankful to telkom, in the middle of a strike the senior technicians came out and fixed the problems!

Sadly its still not 100% speedtests only shows the line being 16mbps instead of 50 :'( but atleast I have internet at home again....

Hi XYZ

I got off the line with commercial now and they confirmed the line is set at 20 mbps. The concern is the distance from the exchange which is causing the issue with the speeds on the current 20 mbps line. They are also looking at the upgrade request to confirm feasibility thereof.

Awaiting some updates for you on the above.

The only problem I have is that I spoke to the technicians, when they moved me over to the other line the new line had a break that was 256meters away, luckily according to them it was at the exchange, and they just had to find the right cable, so it will be easier to locate than the previous 150meter break.

So I am only 250meters away from the exchange...

Edit: its worth mentioning that the line speedtested to about 18-19kbps when it was first installed.

FaSMaN - stop using WebAfrica as soon as you possibly can. I broke out in laughter when they said "concerned with distance from exchange"

Thats true for ADSL where you have signal to noise ratio and attenuation to contend with.
WebAfrica, free tip. Fibre Optic works on light. There is no attenuation or signal to noise ratio. Really try another excuse.

FaSMaN, switch now before you need to communicate with them again. They are so useless as to confuse ADSL tech with Fibre (bwahaahah) omg ... sniffle

Not 100% correct but we understand what you mean. The significance of attenuation and SNR is just different to that experienced on ADSL.

Must be a bastard when an ISPs favourite cop out line is suddenly no longer available to them hey! :crylaugh:

The person that is helping me isnt from within the fibre side of WA, more the SNR Management side, which explains the confusion look WA is fairly bad with customer support but once they line works they are so far flawless for me, the old line was constantly full speed, regardless of how much I hammer it.

They are working on it for me now that I have the right people ;)

'Grats!!!!!!!!

So happy to hear this got sorted. Many of us watching the outcome on this thread.
