US government launches open-source software hub

first thing i thought was, backdoors, backdoors everywhere...
 
Brilliant, now for the open data portals...
We need moar!
 
Github.com is already widely used though, so why didn't they just use an existing medium that has been tried and tested, and trusted?

Github is not the only open source portal out there. It's also likely that it'll be more frequently used by those who do work for the USG agencies. It may, in fact, become a requirement to do work for them under certain contracts.

I also looked at their portal, and it seems like some repositories redirect to Github anyway.
