Passengers movie [SPOILERS]

I just watched the movie. Not what I expected but I enjoyed it.

As a Systems Architect and Engineer, the people that designed that ship should never be allowed to design another one again.

Their failure modes amount to "there are no critical failures". Just how arrogant do you have to be where you design or sign off on a design that has no way to involve the crew in repairs while in flight.

My goodness. Those designers win the "special olympics" for fail.

If you aren't a Systems Engineer then you probably enjoyed the movie more than I.
 
I'm only a regular developer without a fancy title so I don't understand :(
 
I still fail to see the "spoilers" in the OP. And no i did not drink heavily last night.
 
I watched it yesterday.
Really enjoyed it although it received average reviews and is a box office flop.

Not strictly true, it was more that there were no crew around to do any actual repairs. Just two passengers, one of whom was a mechanic, but not a ships mechanic, merely an ordinary, give-me-that-broken-toaster-type.

When the ship had a critical failure that it couldn't correct, it should have been able to wake the crew.
 
Oh sorry I misread you a little. Yea I agree, that it should have had for sure.

Same. 0.1% of the population won't enjoy it coz they see what's wrong, rest of us will be fine.

As a side note, if one really analyses anything that's unrealistic in any series or movie, you're never going to enjoy any of them.
 
A really enjoyable sci-fi adventure. Chris Pratt & JLaw were both convincing. The love story angle is pushed a notch too hard perhaps. The visual style of the film was really good. All in all a most gratifying watch.

Sidenote: I don't see any point of Andy Garcia being billed in this movie. 15 secs screen time & no lines! Lol

The future I like....Damn That doc capsule /Pod, whatever you call it? Freakin awesome ! We could do with some of those, as our doctors seem to ask us continually " What is wrong with you/ what is the matter" ?? Geez Doc? You are the Doc, i should ask you that question, diagnose me and tell me what is wrong with me?:confused:
 
As the ship passes the burning star the PA system tells the passenger to make their way to a viewing deck... Why would this announcement have happened if the entire ship was hibernating?
 
^, good spot...it must have been for the bartender :p...it was never explained why Michael Sheen would be polishing unused glasses for 120 years. He's the deus ex machina used to spill the secret...lame. I would have preferred she found something in his room rather than that android silliness.

The movie sure was pretty but the love story fell flat for me. She should have killed him, got lonely and eventually woken up a dude (or chick) for herself. That would be the perfect ending...her crying while the new love interest wonders why. As it is, the movie kinda glorifies stalking in a way...an analogy would be that if you could kidnap a woman and take her somewhere where you were the only viable partner, eventually she would grow to love you enough to forgive you for the betrayal. That's a creepy message anyway you slice it.

I read the blurb for the movie and thought : no back up systems, no redundancy, no plans B through Z?

Other than that, is it just Nottingham Hill in space?
 
Just watched it. It's mediocre at best. Will never be able to sit through that in a cinema.
 
The movie shouldve ended with a montage of their life on the ship where the great grandkids get to experience the the new life.

Or at least a flash forward where Pratt has woken up a dozen hotties and the ship is running riot with rug rats.
