After this exchange with Copa I want to start up a MyBB Cape Town Hiking Club. Add your name if you're interested.

While I'm rambling, anyone in Cape Town who wants to hang out - Let me know!

After the 2014 meet didn't a few of you start a hiking group? I could use some hiking buddies ...

We did, briefly, I'm up for more excursions, definitely.

Cool, I'm keen. Did no exercise this year due to depression/stress caused by financial issues. That was resolved a few months ago and things are looking up :) I've set out to do 150 km beach hikes over my three week holiday to get fit again, at 92 km today. Feeling a lot fitter which improves my mood tremendously. Want to get back into mountain hiking but prefer with partners especially the more interesting routes. I probably climbed the Table Mountain range 150 times since 2001 but haven't in several years.

All my hiking buddies moved away or got kids. :(

Maybe start a thread ...

Sounds good. I can't think of anything to add to the list.

What I must get though, is a Green Card, which costs R135 and gives you 12 entries to any of the Table Mountain National Park’s pay points: Cape of Good Hope (Cape Point); Boulders Penguin Colony, Oudekraal and Silvermine, as well as to the braai and picnic areas at Tokai, Newlands and Perdekloof, where you would otherwise pay a fair amount.

Very good value. I'll be in CT for 3 days and I'm considering one each for my wife and kids and I.

When you starting?

Mid January I think. Tentatively Saturday 14th 10 AM. Let's do something easy to start with ... Camps Bay up Kasteelspoort to the cable car, down and return along the Pipe Track. Around 3-4 hours. We could have lunch and drinks before we go down.

Dont know whats in your backpack but ensure a small medi kit. I am sure Mr Medic or whatever his name is can tell you what the essentials should be for hiking etc.

Also, take some kind of protection like a knife, extendable baton, firearm or pepperspray.

Enjoy the hiking.

So, I am certainly keen to do this one.

Will just need to leave a bike helmet and jacket in someone's car. :)

Also keen for the hike up Kasteelspoort.
The Atlantic Seaboard side of the mountain is cool in the morning, but the trek from the top to the cable car will be tuff if the sun is out (but still fun!).

Weather looking good for Saturday. Note we'll take the cable car down so bring cash or a card. Will need to start a Whatsapp group in case we need to cancel due to weather or whatever. Send me you mobile number if you are joining us Saturday at 10 am.

You will need to park here: https://www.google.com/maps/@-33.962551,18.3843171,18.75z

Busy getting ready ... got my backpack out of storage in the garage, going through my own checklist I realised I forgot to add an important thing! A sunhat.
