Johannesburg - DA leader Mmusi Maimane has met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in what the party has described as a private and religious visit to Israel and Palestine.

“He is here to listen and learn about the conflict and the potential leadership role that South Africa could and should be playing in constructively assisting both parties to resume negotiations,” the party said in a statement on Thursday.

Maimane met opposition leader, Isaac “Bougie” Herzog. He is the Zionist Union co-leader and Israeli Labour party chairperson.

Maimane had asked for a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

“I’m told it was cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. But he met with other Palestinian officials,” Maimane’s spokesperson Mabine Seabe told News24.

Maimane planned to meet Palestinian and Israeli business community representatives.

“This is in keeping with the DA’s commitment to a two-state solution and to South Africa playing a constructive role in bringing the two parties together instead of inflaming tensions between them,” the DA said.

There is not much of the land of the state that is not a state left
Shrinks by the year

The "constructive-role" is needed HERE in SA

ANC blasts Maimane for Israel visit

DA leader Mmusi Maimane has come under fire from the ANC for his trip to Israel.

This is the time second time in as many weeks that DA leaders have been on the receiving end of ANC attacks for bungling the country’s foreign policy.

Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga defended his decision to visit Taiwan in December, which is in conflict with South Africa’s policy of diplomatic ties with Beijing.

Former President Nelson Mandela’s government cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan in the 1990s and established diplomatic relationships with China.

On Thursday the ANC said Maimane’s visit to Israel was not the position supported by the government.

The government backs the Palestinian people.

ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said the DA continued to show blind support for Israel despite its treatment of the Palestinian people.

For a perspective . In the Israeli newspapers the matter is not mention at all . It is soooooooooo unimportant .

ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said the DA continued to show blind support for Israel despite its treatment of the Palestinian people.

The ANC has blind support for Mugabe despite his treatment of the Zimbabwean people.
The ANC has blind support for al-Bashir despite his treatment of the Sudanese people.
The ANC had blind support for Gaddafi despite his treatment of the Libyan people.
The ANC has blind support for China despite its treatment of the Chinese people.

The DA meeting both sides of the conflict shows that they understand the complexities of the situation.

LMFAO!

The ANC has lost touch with their voters. The amount of cars I see with the "Lion of Juda" stickers on their cars especially here in Pretoria is really an eye opener.
Just shows how the ANC has lost touch with their voters, clearly the DA hasn't.

And this thread, just like anything else concerning DA has just become a thread about the ANC, how predictable.

Well the ANC did kind of inject themselves into the debate by "blasting" Maimane for the visit and just painting themselves as complete and utter retards (as usual)

O right, because the article is not about the ANC bashing Miamane for going to Israel right?

You guys are soooooo predictable :D

The use of the SA flag by NUTenyahu though... motivated by the butt-hurt caused by the ANC.

And how desperate & pathetic of "Honourable" Maimane.... wannabe President :crylaugh:

He is an official member of parliament and it was a political visit by our official opposition. It is the correct way to refer to him
