What's the thoughts on this new Opel Crossover? "The Mokka X's competitors include the Nissan Juke and Skoda Yeti."

Crisp and compact on the outside, spacious and flexible on the inside, with unique two-tone paintwork and SUV-styling, these are the first pictures of the all-new Vauxhall Crossland X.

The newcomer adds a second vital ingredient to Vauxhall's burgeoning SUV offering, which is due to grow still further in 2017 with the launch of the larger Grandland X later in 2017. While the Vauxhall Crossland X's recently-launched sibling, the Mokka X, has all-wheel-drive capability, is 70mm higher and has larger wheels for buyers with a taste for adventure, the Crossland X has a firm family focus, with a Tardis-like cabin providing high degrees of practicality and flexibility.

And at just 4.21 metres in length the Vauxhall Crossland X is more compact than the Mokka X, and a full 16cm shorter than the Astra Hatch, offering owners greater convenience while driving and manoeuvring in towns and cities. Adding to Crossland X's urban appeal is an elevated seating position and an overall height, which is raised ten centimetres above the Astra's.

The Vauxhall Crossland X also enters a different SUV class to the Mokka X, with rivals such as the Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008. The Mokka X's competitors include the Nissan Juke and Skoda Yeti.

Exceptional driver and passenger comfort has been an obvious priority for a car entering this class. The Crossland X has specially designed AGR-certified adjust their seating position to increase leg room. This seating flexibility is equally valuable for luggage capacity, which is a class-leading 410 litres with the rear seats up. The flexibility of the rear seats allows the luggage capacity to be increased if additional leg room is not required.

Additional innovations in the Vauxhall Crossland X make driving safer and more comfortable, and include a 180-degree panoramic rear-view camera, advanced park assist, forward collision alert with pedestrian detection and autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, speed sign recognition and side blind-spot alert, among others.

The cutting-edge technology is not limited to driver assistance and safety features though, with drivers benefitting from exceptional connectivity that is becoming the norm in Vauxhall models. Vauxhall OnStar, as well as IntelliLink infotainment systems, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keeps drivers connected in a convenient and responsible way through an up to eight-inch colour touchscreen. An extensive petrol/diesel engine portfolio with manual and automatic transmissions also features.

Opel

Crisp and compact on the outside, very spacious and versatile on the inside with trendy two-tone paintwork and a cool SUV look - that is the all-new Opel Crossland X. This versatile urban crossover model (Crossover Utility Vehicle) is the second member of the Opel X family in the B-segment where it joins the sporty bestseller, the Mokka X. The larger Grandland X will be launched in the compact class (C-segment) later this year. Opel thus kicks off the product offensive "7 in 17", which will see seven new models launched in 2017, with two X-newcomers that bring together the best of different worlds: Cars with the bold design, the virtues of a SUV and the attributes facilitating an urban lifestyle. They are the Opel models with the certain X-tra.

Compared with the Opel Mokka X, which comes with optional four-wheel drive for occasional off-road outing, the new Opel Crossland X is predestined for urban areas with its crisp exterior dimensions while also being perfectly suitable for a shopping spree at the organic farm shop or for a holiday trip to Tuscany. With a length of 4.21 meters, the new Crossland X is 16 centimeters shorter than an Astra while at the same time 10 centimeters higher. The occupants can thus enjoy the elevated seating position and resulting excellent overview. Buyers looking for an even better experience can improve the feeling of space even further with the optional panoramic glass roof.

Furthermore, the newcomer offers outstanding innovations that make every day driving safer, more comfortable and easier. Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) with full LED headlights, head up display and the 180-degree Panoramic Rear View Camera along with Advanced Park Assist, Forward Collision Alert with pedestrian detection and Automatic Emergency Braking, Driver Drowsiness System, Lane Keep Assist, Speed Sign Recognition and Side Blind Spot Alert are just some examples. The new Crossland X also comes with Opel-typical outstanding connectivity thanks to Opel OnStar as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible IntelliLink infotainment technology including up to 8-inch large color touchscreens.

Both the driver and the front seat passenger can take advantage of the award-winning and AGR-certified (Aktion Gesunder Rücken) ergonomic seats with Opel being the only manufacturer to offer such comfort in the segment (in both the Crossland X and the Mokka X). Elsewhere, trunk volume of 410 liters - without folding the rear seats down - is class leading. In addition, passengers in the rear have the possibility to adjust their seating position by 150 millimeters in longitudinal direction, thus either increasing legroom or the capacity of the luggage compartment. This makes the Crossland X even more versatile.

Opel has whipped the covers off its new Crossland X, an SUV-styled crossover that will essentially replace the Meriva MPV.

The Crossland X will be positioned below the ever-so-slightly larger (and recently facelifted) Mokka X, and will do battle with the likes of the Renault Captur. The German automaker believes there is space for both the Crossland X and Mokka X in its range, seeing as the latter (with its larger wheels and higher ride height) is more “adventure focused”.

Opel says the front-wheel drive newcomer has a “firm family focus”, with a large cabin and “high degrees of practicality and flexibility”. Indeed, the rear seats boast a sliding function allowing them to be moved up to 150 mm fore and aft.

Measuring 4,21 metres long, the Crossland X is not only slightly shorter than the Mokka X, but also not quite as long as the Astra hatchback.

Interestingly, the Crossland X employs a platform shared with PSA Peugeot Citroën (and thus pilfers the Peugeot 2008’s underpinnings) and the upcoming Citroën C3 Picasso.

Opel says an “extensive” engine portfolio, comprising petrol and diesel engines mated to manual or automatic transmissions, will be available. Although engine details have yet to be confirmed, we expect the Crossland X to source its mills from Peugeot.

General Motors SA tells us that the Opel Crossland X is currently “under serious consideration” for South Africa.

Opel Reveals Crossland X SUV - Cars.co.za

Opel has announced an all-new product. It's called the Crossland X and it's a crossover with the styling of an SUV. Let's unpack this new offering.

At first glance, you'd think it's a variation of the Opel Mokka family, but this versatile urban crossover will slot in just under the Mokka and tackle the B-segment. A larger C-segment Crossland X will be launched later on in 2017 and it'll take on the likes of the Nissan Qashqai.

In terms of dimensions, it's 16 cm shorter than an Astra, but 10 cm higher. The elevated seating position will find favour with many and the option of a panoramic glass roof will enhance that feeling of space. The Opel Crossland X boasts numerous tech such as Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) with full LED headlights, head-up display and the 180-degree Panoramic Rear View Camera along with Advanced Park Assist, Forward Collision Alert with pedestrian detection and Automatic Emergency Braking, Driver Drowsiness System, Lane Keep Assist, Speed Sign Recognition and Side Blind Spot Alert. You'll be able to connect your cellular devices to the car via Opel OnStar which is Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto compatible.

The trunk volume of 410 litres - without folding the rear seats down - is claimed to be class-leading. Passengers in the back have the possibility to adjust their seating position, which increases legroom or the capacity of the luggage compartment.

"Demand for small SUV and crossover models tailored for urban traffic is increasing significantly. The Crossland X with its combination of cool, SUV-inspired design, outstanding connectivity and high practicality represents a second strong competitor in this vehicle class next to our sporty Mokka X," said Opel CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann. "Our agile Crossland X delivers on driving pleasure while oozing urban lifestyle, making it perfect for the city and escapes to the countryside."

The reason behind the Opel Crossland X's creation? Well, the CUV/SUV B-segment is booming with sales figures up five-fold since 2010. When it comes to market, the Opel Crossland X will be powered by a choice of diesel, petrol and LPG with either a manual or automatic transmission.
