Budget graphics cards under R5,000 – Pricing and performance

Question for you boffins...

I currently have a HD5870. I had a look at the 1050TI they mention on here, and was a bit surprised by the below......
Seems my ancient card is not doing too badly then.

Apart from the obvious, it being newer tech, lower power consumption, is it worth going for one of these cards over the 5870, purely from a performance point of view?

The 1050TI is twice as fast as your GFX card?

The HD 5000 series is now legacy. The architecture is ancient. Apart from that, you wouldn't reap any benefits from new driver updates, and running newer games would be a bit of a gamble. So IMO, any new gen card would be better :P

^, sad but true...the 5850 and 5870 were very, very good for their time. Depending on what games you play though, there is life in them.

Budget for me if it is less R500!

Not for a GPU. That's like saying my budget for a car is R2000, it's not realistic.

You can get GPUs for R500, just can't do much gaming with them, same like you could probably get a car for R2000 but won't be doing much driving in it.

CS:GO mainly, also a lot of older stuff like Farcry, Fallout, Skyrim.

Started Farcry Primal a few weeks back, running smoothly on whatever the game suggested.
The drivers are a bit of a headache, but I fugure while it still works it does that I want to.
